Der Plan

Sorry, aber wenn jemand für etwas Großes vorbestimmt ist, sollte er sich nicht mit der Liebe aufhalten, die für den Trost der unsicheren Sterblichen bestimmt ist! :-) Auf jeden Fall ist es ein sympathisches Genre-Crossover, dessen abgeleierter romantischer Plot in einem originellen Milieu spielt und der ihn auf eine interessante Art und Weise durch spannende Gedanken über das Schicksal ergänzt. Eine Woche später erhöhe ich die Bewertung auf 4* wegen der Originalität. Wenn der Film ein anderes, trauriges Ende hätte, würde ich gleich vier Sterne geben. (27.03.2011)

Most people say it’s a pleasant surprise, but I knew at the beginning of the year that The Adjustment Bureau would be a hit, so the resulting 70% impression remains slightly below my expectations. In any case, it’s a pleasant and playful film in every sense. The outlined mythology of the gentlemen with hats is interesting and I would love to look deeper into it, maybe at the expense of the romantic retro line of a man in trouble and a woman unaware. But I’m being unnecessarily critical. The Adjustment Bureau works perfectly as a romantic sci-fi/fantasy snack, there’s no reason to complain. The ending it’s a pity, though, everything is sorted out almost too smoothly. A successful début no doubt. (05.03.2011)

A story from life. Except for the fact that my "angels" don't wear stylish hats. Plus there’s the excellent Damon, the great Blunt, a good soundtrack, and on top of that the visual fetish of Manhattan. Maybe in time, it will fade, but now it hit harder than anything else in the last year or so. [Spoiler possibility: I'll have to read Dick’s book, if only for the fact that I’m interested to see if the same wave of positive feelings spills over at the end as with the movie. :)] (21.06.2011)

I will gladly appreciate any interesting and original Hollywood screenplay. The Adjustment Bureau has exactly this kind of unusual screenplay, which on one hand is full of clichés, but on the other hand also full of ideas that are nice to think about. Matt Damon and Emily Blunt performed their standard and they fit perfectly into the film. It is full of great ideas and open thoughts, which will always remain just thoughts. But they are thoughts that are worth considering. (16.10.2013)

Eine nette Überraschung. Damon und Blunt neigen rege zueinander wobei Nolfis Versuch, die Romanze des (Ex-)Kongressabgeordneten sowie der Tänzerin mit dem Sci-Fi-Element der "Schicksalskontrolleure" ist aufgegangen und zwar insbesondere deshalb, weil wir in seiner Retro-Herangehensweise Übertreibung verspüren, keinen Versuch, aus Dicks Story etwas äußerst Effektvolles herauszuholen. Somit stehen ein verliebter Politiker und eine niedliche Equipe an Beamten mit Hüten gegenüber, in deren Notitzbücher sich eine Art übersichtliche Wahrscheinlichkeitsweltkarte befindet. Sofern wir aufhören, hierin nach philosophischer Konssistenz oder Logik zu suchen, so belohnen uns Der Plan mit einer flotten Mischung aus Thriller und romantischem Drama. Im Gegensatz zu (500) Days Of Summer oder Vergiss mein nicht! Gibt es hier zwar keine solch ausgeprägte Poetik, jedoch der Debütant Nolfi ist sehr geschickt und weiß, was er drehen will. Nach einer anfänglichen Skepsis sowie dem Sarkasmus zu Beginn (vier Onkels in Käppies kontrollieren die Welt? WTF?) Ich hatte doch bereits und eben auch nur toll amüsiert (obwohl ich hie und dort meine Augenbrauen anhob), was ich üblicherweise bei Leibesfilmen nicht mache. Punkte für Nolfi. P.S. Endlich habe ich verstanden, woher denn die wundersame tschechische Filmfigur des Herrn Tau herkommt. (22.02.2011)

I fell in love with the movie the moment David fell in love with Elise. The first time they met in the bathroom gave me chills. I've been falling for it ever since. The idea of the hats as a "key" to the door was extremely original. The final scene, when the lovers hugged each other and said those beautiful words to each other instead of any reaction, moved me tremendously. Has it ever happened to you that you meet Ms (or Mr) Right and circumstances spoiled it all for you? Well it wasn’t the circumstances, but guys in hats controlling your fate. A refreshing plot, even fateful romance (Dick is an endless fountain of ideas), excellently transformed into movie format. Nolfi may not be Spielberg or Scott, but he best captures the playfulness and versatility of P.K. Dick’s imagination. Matt Damon plays another nice guy and Emily Blunt is surprisingly well matched to him. Maybe it doesn’t deserve a clean five, but I have a weakness for this genre. And Thomas Newman rocks again. Matt Damon almost forgot what it's like to have the role of an honest nice guy. Fortunately, he definitely hasn't forgotten the art of acting, and it was mainly him, along with the excellent and natural Emily Blunt, who carried this peculiar film forward. Excellent dialogues, screenplay, and dramaturgy, some of the sci-fi elements may be unnecessary and the overall philosophy of the film is slightly over the top. But it is satisfactory within the realm of intelligent and undemanding popcorn entertainment, satisfaction. It is certainly a creation that, although fairly original in terms of premise, will not have a specific audience, but will captivate a wide range of dumb people. In most things, it is very uncontroversial and organized. I see it as a slight flaw, but fans of dumb movies will appreciate it. (25.09.2011)

Ich sage es ständig: Brauchen Sie eine originelle Science-Fiction-Idee? Schließen Sie die Augen, fischen Sie aus dem Haufen der bisher nicht verfilmten Gedanken von Philip K. Dick eine Idee heraus und vermasseln Sie es nicht. Das ist eine Garantie für Erfolg. So wie z. B. bei Der Plan. Aus der unauffälligen Kurzgeschichte "Umstellungsteam" (sie beginnt mit dem Dialog von zwei Beamten, der eine ist ein Mann und der andere ein Hund, wobei der Hund groß und schwarz ist – ich wette, dass aus ihm in der Filmadaption der Verwalter wurde, weil beide praktisch denselben Fehler machen – sie verschlafen) ist ein originelles, angenehmes, "engelhaft-göttliches" Science-Fiction-Märchen ohne überflüssige Actionszenen, ohne Gewalt und superteure Spezialeffekte geworden. Der debütierende Regisseur hat seine Arbeit gut gemacht. Der Plan wirkt vom Anfang bis zum Ende angenehm magisch, die Schauspielleistungen sind auch gut… Ja, ich bin zufrieden._PS: Die literarische Vorlage findet man im zweiten Band der Sammlung "Variante zwei".__PPS: So, Hollywood, und jetzt verfilme endlich das schwarzhumorige Buch "Die Zeit läuft zurück". This film may not be great within the genre, but it’s so original that it's above average. A great combination of a romantic plot with a sci-fi theme, excellent casting and Newman's rhythmic soundtrack. The main character stunned me with his behaviour, he was going against his destiny for his desired love, and I wished him luck. The final happy ending felt a bit contrived, but as I said, I was really looking forward to it this time. 75% (05.02.2013)

Such a type of movie that tries a little to mess with your thoughts. There are surprising twists, interesting sci-fi elements, and it's all quite intriguing and entertaining. Moreover, they managed to cast excellent actors, not just for the two main roles. "Fate Managers" is also a pretty good title that gives it a somewhat Hitchcockian touch, even more so in English. After all, that is reflected in the story. (01.03.2014)
