Zombieland

Zombieland fängt einfach irgendwo an und endet irgendwo. Dem Film fehlt ein festeres Gerüst. Die Figuren sind aber sympathisch. Die Filmemacher haben mit ihnen gearbeitet. Das gilt auch für die effektvollen Aufnahmen in Zeitlupe. Ein angenehmer Film zum Entspannen, Zack Snyder war aber mutiger und scharfer. Im Zombie-Subgenre lohnt sich das. (14.12.2009)

I confess that despite the excellent responses, I didn’t believe in Zombieland, at all. The trailer didn’t interest me in the slightest and given how much I (didn’t) like that other highly praised zombie comedy (Shawn of the Dead), I expected 80 minutes of boredom and suffering. Fortunately, the heroes of Zombieland are a lot more likeable than the gang around Simon Pegg. Where I fundamentally disagree with most other reviewers is in my opinion about the course of the film. I consider the beginning as the weakest part (those first fifteen minutes made me fear a new Shawn, with the corresponding two stars), the quiet moments in the middle (the interactions of the characters) as the best, and the action-packed climax as a fun end to the ride. While I understand the overseas acclaim, I refuse to join in. In fact, Zombieland runs at about half throttle when it could easily push the pedal through the floor for 85 minutes. Ideas from the black humor barrel are piled on during the opening credits meaning that essentially nothing happens for an hour, and then they arrive at B. M. and then at the amusement park. Every now and then pop culture is mentioned (Facebook, actors, movies), and sometimes it switches to video game mode (the roller coaster ride is a "Painkiller" DLC), but rarely does something ball-busting pop up that would stay in my mind forever and make me want to watch this again... for that, all I need is the trailer. PS: Woody Harrelson is one of the absolute best guys of the year, no question about it. (03.11.2009)

Beim ersten Teil handelt es sich genau um jene rohe und blutige Sache, nach der ich mich gesehnt habe - parodistisch spielt man hier mit der Ästhetik des Teenagerhorrors und Komödie herum, es wird ein Spruch nach dem anderen aus dem Ärmel geschüttet und den Höhepunkt bildet Bill Murrays cameo, welches zu einem jener gehört, die gleich als abzuschließen, die vorneweg Kultcharakter erlangen. Leider geht sodann jede Invention den Bach runter und Zombieland fängt seltsam an, die Nase zu triefen, es gibt hier auch unzusammenhängendes Geschwätz und mit einem uncharakteristischen Finale kann man den Tempoverlust auch nicht mehr wettmachen. Plötzlich ist das, was vorher parodiert worden ist, Bestandteil des Films - und es taucht ein Krampf und Unglaubwürdigkeit auf. Außerdem haben wir hier der aufgedunsenen Redneck Harrelson, welcher das Schiff vor dem vollständigen Auflaufen auf eine Flachstelle bewahrt. Mit einigen Teilelementen gehört Zombieland zu den hervorragenden Vertretern der Horrorkomödie, doch schade, dass Fleischer und co. Das Ganze nicht haben zu einem sinnvollen Ganzen verbinden können. Eigentlich ist es schade, dass sie sich überhaupt darum bemüht haben. Denn für dieses Family-Ende hätte man da eher eins mit dem Banjo über den Schädel verdient. (19.11.2009)

(Don't Fear) The Reaper, baby. Unfortunately I was right when I said to myself after seeing the opening credits that nothing better could possibly follow. Zombieland is a movie where its greatest blessing is also its greatest affliction. Woody Harrelson is unarguably outstanding and pulls the whole movie along, but even so the role should have been given to somebody with cult status gained by hard work in countless B-movies. Yes, somebody like Bruce Campbell would be more suitable. And everything in Zombielandis like. What you find here is good and entertaining, but you can also see clearly how much better and more rounded it could of been... P.S.: It was really nice to see the nod to Deliverance. (30.11.2009)

Selbst die Anfangstitel sind eine wahre Freude für das Horrorauge. Woody Harrelson spricht, als ob es um sein Leben ginge, und auch Eisenberg macht keinen unnötigen Firlefanz. Eher eine Komödie als ein Horrorfilm, es fehlt dem nur der ein beängstigender Moment, was ein bisschen schade ist. Aber es ist lustig, da gibt es keine Frage. 7/10. (14.03.2010)

I avoided Zombieland at the time of its release in movie theaters, as I didn't expect any miracles and after watching it, that feeling was confirmed down to the last detail. It is good to compare this film to the British film Shaun of the Dead. After all, they are both in the same genre and thematically about the same thing. From this comparison, it's clear why American cinema so successfully crushes its competitors. It has perfectly mastered marketing and can sell even average products as exclusive matters. Although Shaun of the Dead is a much more mature and clever spectacle, both films have the same rating scores and Zombieland easily leads in terms of viewers. All in all, it is an average affair and one of the numerous cases where the functional content is contained in the trailer and a substantial part of the film is filled with mere filler. The first ten minutes are fine, setting a decent pace and outlining the rules by which the main hero operates in his desire to survive the rampage of zombies. Then the film falls into routine, occasionally interrupted by a good gag, such as the destruction of a bloodthirsty zombie with a piano or Bill Murray's role with his undignified end. The film also shows an obvious effort to sell it to a teenage audience as the target group, so besides the horror parody, it also uses elements of a teenage comedy. Fleischer's film has tremendous untapped potential, as the subject matter allowed for countless gags and comedic situations. Overall impression: 50%. (17.04.2010)

Likeable main protagonists, a ton of laughs and eye-candy slow motion splattering blood. What more could one ask for? Woody Harrelson is awesome and Jesse Eisenberg was a very pleasant surprise. The zombies here aren’t spooky, so no horror, but maybe comedy of the year. You must learn to appreciate the simple things in life. (01.12.2009)

Der geniale britische Film Shaun Of The Dead bleibt unübertroffen. Zombieland kann man aber als einen angenehm dummen und gleichzeitig vor allem unterhaltsamen Film mit einer vernünftigen Laufzeit bezeichnen, der gute Ideen hat und den eine ausgezeichnete (und definitiv keine kleine) Rolle von Bill Murray schmückt. Der unsympathische Eisenberg hätte es aber verdient, gleich in der ersten Minute gefressen und ausgespuckt zu werden. (09.04.2011)

The story wasn’t complicated at all, the plot was sometimes illogical, but I was satisfied anyway. I liked the overall execution, and I was also pleased with the great cast (including Bill Murray's cameo). (27.07.2019)
