Antonio Campos made a western-flavored, Deep South “fuck-up" thriller about the bad things that happen to bad people... and to Tom Holland. McCarthy’s poetic style is slightly undermined by the cynical narrator, who makes astute comments on the outcome of some of the situations, adding details necessary for understanding the humorous charm of the portrait as a whole. Pattinson really savors his role as an ingratiating, oversexed preacher and Jason Clarke was surprising as a porn photographer, but Holland was unusually less prominent, even though he has to deal with the biggest shitstorms and his moral dilemmas are probably the most convincing. Certainly one of the surprises of the year. Spider-Man vs. The Winter Soldier 2:0.

A great line with Cartman's girlfriend. There is no shortage of anti-White racism and good old-fashioned discrimination. And sex with a co-worker makes everyone want to puke.

An outstanding conversational drama with a fantastic cast. Light on its feet, funny and touching. The popes are both nice people and, thanks to the excellently written dialogue, you get an exact idea of both of their viewpoints. The scenes with Anthony Hopkins having a Fanta and a pizza inside the Sistine Chapel and he and Pryce watching football and drinking beer are priceless. An unbelievably humane and positive movie.

If I was Jewish, I might have liked this more. After an excellent opening, the action slows down when we arrive in the present and, even though Rogen delivers one funny scene after another, he just can’t escape from his constant moralizing. The pickling is like something out of a demonic horror flick and the subsequent brutal hype doesn’t seem unrealistic to me even though it was intended to be tongue-in-cheek. The Pickle lacks momentum and high-impact scenes, but it’s fun and makes for a pleasant viewing experience.

Cartman’s digital death in the remote cabin is genius. But these connected stories have one big minus point. They have numerous dead moments. Some of the connections are rather forced. This is more satire than humor. Or is it nihilism?

The last three episodes are such a blast that I had to watch them all at once. Commercials like the new Skynet are the kind of humor that gives you chills.

A solid, straightforward genre movie whose sole aim is to entertain. It’s certainly better than the second one in the series, which was really over-the-top. The plot twists are formulaic and predictable, but also entertaining with the enchanting scene in which the granddad is introduced to Nolte’s family, leading to an impressive climax. Butler is no spring chicken anymore, but he still delivers the goods. I’m satisfied with this movie.

A revealing probe into human organ trafficking in Korea. A classic story about a tough guy, pursued by ghosts from his past, rescuing a kidnapped little girl; spiced up with Lee’s bloodthirsty interludes. The first-rate action towards the end and the uncompromising brutality balance out the rather over-sentimental beginning. And Bin Won is the spitting image of Jet Li.

Project Power is sort of alternative, black version of Push (has it been 11 years already?), with a lot of rapping and talk about oppression. It moves along quite well, but you soon forget the generic storyline, even though the original idea and the world where it all takes place are interesting. Thanks to the great cast and the setting in New Orleans, Project Power is a really good watch. The action scenes are very convincing, but contain nothing new. All said, this is a good TV flick.

We waited so long for the new Ayer movie, but all for nothing. This trivial story of a kind gangster who gets into problems is often unintentionally funny. Talking about honor and the family doesn’t mix well with threats and torture. In terms of acting, it’s a disaster and is reminiscent of a Mexican telenovella. The only one with any role to play is Shia, but even here it would have been easier to take him seriously if he had started out cutting off a few fingers and kneecapping somebody. The director can’t get the flashbacks to work, instead just confusing things for the viewer. Did he edit out the torture scenes? Did he go soft? This time, it’s just bad, homey.
