Mars, im Jahre 2071. Wenige Tage vor Halloween. In einem gigantischen Feuerball explodiert ein Tanklastwagen auf dem vielbefahrenen Highway One, mitten in der Metropole Alba City. Ein tödliches Virus wird freigesetzt. Dutzende von Toten und Hunderte von Verletzten im Umkreis von mehreren Kilometern sind die Folge. Die “Cowboys”, Kopfgeldjäger unter der Führung von Spike Spiegel, beginnen mit ihren Ermittlungen. Eine Prämie in der astronomischen Höhe von 300 Millionen marsianischen Woolong lockt. Schon bald aber erkennen Spike, der hünenhafte Ex-Cop Jet Black, die smarte Faye Valentine, das PC-Girlie Ed und ihr hellsichtiger Hund Ein, dass sie es nicht nur mit dem mysteriösen Vincent Volaju und seinem perfiden Rachefeldzug gegen die Regierung zu tun haben. Mars on Halloween hides so many new interesting characters and opportunities for fights and shootouts that it turns Cowboy Bebop: The Movie into the most atmospheric, perfectly graded, and possibly best take on the life of these outer space bounty hunters. Spike, Jet, and Faye confirm the differences and interconnectedness of their personalities, and Ed has more great lines and antics than he does even throughout the entire series. That's why this feature-length film can surprisingly work as a standalone movie, but only an informed viewer will enjoy the characteristic outbursts of the main hero and a few subtle references to favorite scenes from the Cowboy Bebop TV series. What can you do – this gang enjoyed their wild ride among the stars right up until the last second.

Spike is a badass in the show and he'll be no different in the movie. I had fun, at times I felt like I hit some dead spots, but you know dreams. I really like how scruffy everything is in this anime, if it was different it probably wouldn't have this charm. Those who have seen the series will have fun, those who haven't will have fun too, it just might take them a while to get their bearings. Are you living in the real world?
