John Wick: Kapitel 2

Wenn die beste Passage erst am Ende wäre und nicht in der ersten Hälfte, wäre für mich John Wick: Kapitel 2 der beste Actionfilm ever (dieser Posten gehört bis heute Face/Off - Im Körper des Feindes). Die Ausstattung, der Schnitt und die Kamera der ganzen Handlung in Rom sind ein Höhepunkt des Genres, welcher best of John Woo übertrifft. Eine visuelle Eleganz der originellen Filmwelt, ein düsterer und dreckiger Ton. Eine entwaffnende Kadenz vom super Schnitt der knallharten Action. Alle Figuren sind würdevoll und durchdacht. Der schicksalhafte, neo-noir Reeves, den man einfach mögen muss – nicht nur als Schauspieler, sondern auch als Menschen. Es hat mir unglaublich gut gefallen. Ich habe jede Sequenz so genossen, wie ich bei anderen Actionthrillern fast nur den Höhepunkt genießen kann. Eine Delikatesse, die man sich immer wieder ansehen kann. (22.03.2017)

Poetry in motion. John Wick is a delightfully straightforward action movie that is constantly surprising and incredibly stylish with every shot. It is a film of movement that should theoretically satisfy fans of Buster Keaton, Akira Kurosawa, Sergio Leone, John Woo and video games. The comic-bookishly exaggerated world with a taciturn western hero (who, however, is skilled at expressing himself with a pen) makes more sense than in the first film thanks to the elaboration of the mythology, but a halting rhythm is the price paid for the second instalment’s longer runtime. The wheels come off the film for a moment after Laurence Fishburne, the king of New York vagabonds, appears (too late) on the scene (I believe he will be better utilised in the sequel) and just needlessly burns minutes towards the end (the return “home”). Though the first John Wick wasn’t so long that it would start repeating itself, and I will watch it again with greater enthusiasm, but from now on I will be happy to use the second instalment of John Wick, alongside Sherlock Jr., as a prime example of the fact that action doesn’t have to be created only through editing, but also through movement in thoughtfully composed shots. Who would have said a few years ago that the most respect-worthy action hero of the 21st century, whom you believe has a love for a nameless dog, distinctive taste in clothes, an understanding of intelligent modern art (you never know when a properly adjusted mirror might save your life) and the ability to shoot up the entire Camorra without batting an eye, would be Keanu Reeves in his fifties? 80% (23.02.2017)

The second one is just as good as the first one. In the first one, they take down John’s dog and so he goes on a killing spree. In this, he kills and leaves with his dog. The circle is complete. You won’t find any better easy-to-watch action movie nowadays. (15.09.2017)

Disappointment. Not big, but disappointment nonetheless. John Wick 2 is still way ahead of other action movies, but in the fights and the shootouts, it sometimes runs out of breath and starts to repeat itself a little. Fortunately, the lead is so great that it doesn't matter that much. The bigger problem is with the story, which is taken deadly seriously this time, lacking the lightness and wit of the first one, and, above all, going in a direction that I personally don't consider to be completely fortunate. While John Wick used to be a myth, a legend, and a specter whose name terrified every mafia member, now he is just one of many assassins who lost their uniqueness somewhere between the first and second film. The myth is gone. Moreover, the film thoughtlessly divulges all the secrets of the world of assassins, which was previously so attractive precisely because it kept those secrets. Quite a shame. John Wick 2 is an above-average action movie that unfortunately comes with a boring story that somewhat loses itself. Oh, and also with a rather weak lineup of antagonists. Sorry, but next time I want more. Although maybe I'll prefer to wait less. (15.05.2017)

Something wicked this way comes! Im Einser gab es eine Töle, im Zweier künstlerische Ambitionen. Dabei sehen sie genauso todernst aus ... und diesmal glaube ich das vollends. Ein Beweis dafür, dass Headshots ad Acta gehören und späte Bond-Filme mittlerweile vielleicht wiederum zum alten Eisen gehören, jedoch dank deren Betonung von stets wagemutigeren Sets wird auch Einfluss auf diejenigen Filmen ausgeübt, bei denen wir es wohl ursprünglich nicht erahnt hätten. Gleichzeitig sammelt Stahelski so seine Erfahrungen als Regisseur und spielt noch mehr mit dem Timing von Ereignissen herum, das ich im Gegensatz zu vielen seiner Kollegen, für bedeutend ausgefeilter erachte als im Einser (ich weiß gar nicht mehr, wann ich das letzte Mal bei einer Bewaffnungsszene so doof gelächelt habe). Wick hat exakt das aufgegriffen, was mir im Einser am besten gefallen hat - die seltsame Mythologie der Killerbrüderschaft - und fügt weitere interessante Fragmente hinzu. Außer der auffälligen visuellen Aspekte, der verrückt pompösen Szenografie sowie der fantastischen Choreografie ist natürlich Keanu die Hauptzutat. Er schwimmt entgegen den Strom Mode an muskelbepackten Schlägertypen und tötet auch weiterhin mit dem gleichen und ebenso durchdringenden Blick. Reeves kehrt zur Elite mit einem direkten Gang durch eine Tür zurück, im Falle welcher vor drei Jahren so etwas noch niemand erwartet hätte. Und ich kann nicht anders, als zu beurteilen, dass ich mich nur auf Teil Nummer drei im Stil "him vs. the world“ einfach freue. Eine sehr, sehr nette Überraschung, die mit den gleichen Figuren ein noch besseres Spiel abliefert. (17.02.2017)

What is the second Raid movie compared to the first movie, is the first chapter of John Wick compared to the first one, let´s put it this way, creators learned from their own mistakes. We have not had the opportunity to watch something like this in Czech cinemas for a long time, something with such a clear, diverse (the monotony of action of the first movie is long gone) and above all an imaginative composition, aesthetics and choreography of true contact action scenes. And if, in addition, the "obligatory plot frame as a makeweight" is not really a make weight, then what more to ask for an uncompromising straightforward action from the old school? Perhaps just an imaginary icing on the cake in the form of graduating of the memorable final shootout in the gallery also of the equally memorable one-on-one duel, third round of "Wick vs. Cassian" would call for it. An escalating copy of the non-functional first one, in which most of the participants make fools of themselves and the local reviews make a fool out of me. For me, a  bunch of slick head shots do not make for an unforgettable action flick, and if it weren't for the unusual initial destruction of the car, the only scene where Wick maintains the position of an honest worker, I would rate it even lower. Derek Kolstad has made too many foolish decisions this time, cramming bits of Kingsman into the mythology and having the main characters recite ridiculously trivial life mottos. The peak of all the confusion comes with Laurence Fishburne, whose performance and the entire subplot make a bold leap into the toilet. The rescue comes at the very end, which finally justifies the long-standing lack of compromise, but an open ending is a risk that is just begging for a proper punch in the face in the event a sequel is never made. Orgasmus? Der beste Actionfilm im Kino seit Mad Max: Fury Road? Eine Adrenalintreibende Fahrt auf einer Achterbahn? Perfektes Zusammenspiel von Action, Bewegung, Musik, Farben und schwarzem Humor? Ja, das alles ist die Fortsetzung von John Wick. Außerdem kann man sich auf das Finale freuen, welches hoffentlich bald erscheint. Ich will mehr davon. (06.03.2017)

This sequel is visually more finely honed. It doesn’t suffer the usual pitfalls of sequels, while it enjoys all of the advantages. There’s more action, at least equally good, ingenious and surprising, even though it has lost the moment of surprise that part 1 had. The gloomy feeling remains, the creators not allowing themselves to be sucked into mistakes. Reeves enjoys every minute in this role. Lots of powerful moments… I want to visit Rome this year. The first one was fine, but Stahelski was too much of a stuntman and some elementary elements were missing. The sequel is better, masculine, palpably raw and hard, at the same time filmed for a relative pittance and yet stylish, like a TV commercial for a new model of Mercedes-Benz. The scenes in Italy or in the glass maze speak for themselves. It also works as a full-fledged action film whose mythology is a level up from the first installment, the plot is more layered and the shootouts even juicier, and the action itself is an element that is brought to perfection. Rarely will you see such combos, so much shooting, and most importantly, such incredibly clear, and manly powerfully filmed fight scenes, many of them without editing or camera movement. So it's clear that Keanu Reeves worked his ass off, but more importantly, he's living it and loving it. The cast is almost unquestionably evenly distributed, with great cameos by Franco Nero, Peter Stormare and Laurence Fishburn, and a brilliant Common in the role of a tough bodyguard. In general, the fights between Reeves and Common are some of the best ever filmed, only The Raid can compete. If it continues to build up like this, we have a lot to look forward to in the third chapter. (26.02.2017)

Am Anfang sieht John Wick: Kapitel 2 eigentlich wie der erste Film aus. Das ist aber kein Problem und im Laufe der Zeit (vor allem beim hinreißenden Teil in Italien) wird klar, dass dieser Streifen wirklich größer und in einer gewissen Hinsicht noch einfallsreicher als sein älterer Bruder ist. Die ausgearbeitete Welt von all den Killern, die große Jagd auf John Wick und das Spiegel-Finale, welches mich an James Bond 007 - Der Mann mit dem goldenen Colt erinnert hat, haben mir sehr gefallen. Keanu Reeves habe ich alles geglaubt und seine Kolleginnen (die bezaubernd harte Ruby Rose) und Kollegen haben auch ihr Bestes gegeben. Es würde mir gefallen, wenn Chad Stahelski in der Zukunft einen James-Bond-Film drehen würde – sowohl die Actionszenen als auch die Szenen ohne Action macht er nämlich gut und das Ergebnis würde bestimmt interessant aussehen. Action motion picture in full swing, admittedly with a regrettable lack of self-control in the sometimes overly drawn-out action scenes, but with the most poignant insight and the most functional synthesis of all kinds of genre motifs in many years. John Woo finally has a worthy successor. (09.02.2022)

Keanu Reeves eignet sich für die Rolle unglaublich gut, auch angesichts dessen, was man über ihn schreibt - auch wenn niemand wirklich weiß, wie es mit ihm aussieht. Anfangs hatte ich nicht recht Lust, und so kam es mir vor, als sehe ich zweimal denselben Film aber seit Rom konnte ich als Zuschauer nicht für einen Moment durchatmen, denn es war durchgehende Action, eine einfallsreiche Szene wurde von der anderen abgewechselt. Wenn man die Begriffe totaler Fußball, totale Oper verwendet, dann war das ein totaler Actionfilm. Wir stehen klar vor Nummer drei, und wenn das so weitergeht, dann kann man eine ähnlich lange Staffel erwarten wie The Fast and the Furious. (01.03.2017)

I really liked the first film despite its flaws. All I can say about the second installment is that I really liked it despite its flaws. I don't even feel like dissecting the film too much, it's simply a well-made action movie. I’ve got to give props to the sound engineer for making me enjoy every gunfight. In addition to the excellent Ian McShane, there was a point in the film where I wasn’t sure what was real and what was the Matrix, so kudos to the creators for that. (21.08.2017)
