Ice Age 5 - Kollision voraus!

So, it’s true; this movie is most likely the worst one out of the entire series. It confirms the golden rule that when you repeat a joke far too many times, it stops being funny. So once again, there’s a squirrel with a nut, there’s an asteroid that causes ice age… over and over again. But after all, the kids probably won’t mind. (22.11.2017)

It is almost surprising that an ever-expanding group of heroes still maintains the level of humor where they can laugh freely for an hour and a half without inhibition. The reasons why I used to defend the first three parts at any occasion have significantly decreased. The previous installment with its pirate-family theme clearly deviated from the series, and this time, the uniqueness of the whole Ice Age franchise has almost completely disappeared. Collision Course is nothing more than a replaceable family comedy full of obligatory clichés, and in terms of adventure, it is already a somewhat overused variation of a journey for the salvation of everything and everyone. I am saddened by this similar direction, and I will continue to shake my head for a long time, wondering why it couldn't have stayed just a trilogy, but the tremendously positive atmosphere in all of the squirrel's escapades still makes me cautiously nod upward. There's competition among cartoons this year where just having a bunch of funny characters definitely won't keep you in the game. It takes a story. Preferably one that will entertain kids and adults in roughly equal proportions. It must be all the better when it features the same characters for the umpteenth time. While it's true that the filmmakers still have some pretty cool ideas for torturing a squirrel chasing his dream nut, isn't it getting a little stale? It's going to need some kind of fresh air, at the very least. Otherwise, the animation is great, although that's become almost commonplace in recent years. 3 stars. (24.07.2016)

You have to take your hat off to the squirrel for his knowledge of electromagnetic principles and for the massive strokes of luck that this gang has. Scratch’s escapades reach absolute extremes. The music isn’t as playful now, with the departure of Powell. (29.12.2018)

Eher nervig als witzig… Es ist sehr seltsam, einerseits die verrückten Figuren zu beobachten, die verrückte Dinge machen, die sich krümmen, herumspringen und komisch kreischen, und andererseits die traditionell schmuddelige Geschichte über Familienwerte zu verfolgen. Keines von beiden hat mich wirklich interessiert, der Plot mit dem Asteroiden schien schließlich unwichtig zu sein. Und als ich mich an den Film Die Croods erinnert habe, der fast dasselbe Thema viel lustiger dargestellt hat, war ich traurig. Punkte gebe ich nur für Scrat, den manischen Buck und ein paar nette Witze.___P.S. Falls Sie eine DVD haben und nur Scrats Späße sehen wollen, sehen Sie sich den Kurzfilm über Scrat im Weltall an. Das sind eigentlich alle Szenen von Scrat mit einem anderen Ende. (25.12.2016)

If the fourth part had a dodgy plot, this is something else – have they really lost all judgement at Fox? I've more or less liked all the previous episodes, if only for the heaps of likeable and funny characters, but in this case every element is unbelievably sloppy and bland – from the crazy story that even a five-year-old kid won’t laugh at, to the individual gags that fade away at the expense of pathetic family chatter. Perhaps the only things worth mentioning are a few one-liners from a vigorous granny, the imminent return of Buck, and Scrat's struggle with amplified gravity, during which I couldn’t help but chuckle out loud. They say less is sometimes more, but with this series, the most would be nothing. 40% (02.05.2017)

Dieses Mal wirklich nichts anderes als ein reiner Marketing-Produkt für den Verkauf von Spielzeug und Popcorn, dessen Thema bis auf das Mark herausgearbeitet wurde und dessen Schöpfer keine Ambitionen haben, irgendetwas Sinnvolles zu erzählen, und daher Dummheiten wie UFOs und Kristalle der ewigen Jugend erfinden. Der fortgesetzte abnehmende Qualitätstrend zeigt sich auch darin, dass dieser Teil in der Serie nicht einmal als demente Groteske besteht, in der die Figuren stolpern, springen und sich gegenseitig schlagen. Und aufgrund der extremen Anzahl an Helden (mindestens ein Dutzend) werden auch die üblichen Lehren über Werte wie Freundschaft, Familie und Partnerschaft verwässert, die noch falscher klingen. Der neue Ice Age-Film, so die Erwartungen, ist bereits eine Art Abklatsch seiner Vorgänger, aber das ist nicht verwunderlich, wenn man bedenkt, dass dies der fünfte Spielfilm über die alte Bande ist. Was mich am meisten gestört hat, waren die Überfrachtung der Geschichte um Scrat (die Idee mit der fliegenden Untertasse kann ich nicht nachvollziehen) und die Hauptfiguren, die sich mit eher faden und schon oft gesehenen Problemen (heiraten, von den Eltern wegziehen, einen Partner suchen usw.) herumschlagen, die ich eher bei menschlichen Helden suchen würde. Trotzdem habe ich ein paar Mal laut gelacht, vor allem über die Zeilen der alten Faultieroma ("Diese Idee ist so dumm, dass ich ihr mit meinem Stock eins drüberziehen würde, wenn sie ein Gesicht hätte!"). Leider sind der Charme, der Witz und die Originalität der ersten (und auch der dritten) Folge verblasst, so dass die Macher lieber eine andere Richtung hätten einschlagen sollen. Kurz gesagt, eine Fortsetzung, die nicht beleidigt und nicht ganz schlecht ist, aber nichts Neues bringt und vor allem durch ihre Mittelmäßigkeit und Vorhersehbarkeit auffällt. (12.07.2016)

Ice Age is past its prime and no longer has anything to offer. It’s like making tea and reusing the same bag for the fifth time. The animation is obviously still excellent, but the film just lacks heart, so I was utterly bored. I’m giving it one star out of sheer nostalgia. (11.10.2016)

It's already very over-the-top, very colorful, and genre-wise strange, but I still had quite a good time in places. It's nice that most characters still have their voices because you quite enjoy encountering them. The characters manage to grow on you, so I didn't mind the shortcomings too much. But there's just nowhere else to go. (16.01.2017)
