Alle Versuche, der Umwelt seine Erkenntnisse über Atlantis näher zu bringen, schlagen fehl. Doch das ändert sich. Als ein reicher älterer Herr mit dem Angebot einer Atlantis-Expedition auf Milo (Michael J. Fox) zutritt, gibt es zwar einige Zweifel, aber kein Halten mehr. Zusammen mit einem bunten Haufen, der -- wie sich später herausstellt -- aus Söldnern besteht, bricht Milo gen Atlantis auf. Natürlich finden sie Atlantis. Aber allein Milos Fähigkeit, Schrift und Sprache der Atlanter zu beherrschen, sowie dem verzweifelten Überlebenswillen der Bewohner von Atlantis ist es zu verdanken, dass am Ende zwar Tote zu beklagen sind, doch die Geschichte einen für fast alle Beteiligten guten Ausgang findet.In den rund 2.500 Jahren, die seit Platos Niederschrift vergangen sind, hat die Menschheit die Faszination Atlantis nicht wieder losgelassen.
Fragen, wie "Liegt es vor Island oder etwa doch im Mittelmeer", werden noch heute mitunter ebenso ernsthaft diskutiert wie die Vermutung, Plato selbst hätte die Geschichte von Atlantis als eine Art Fabel ersonnen, um die Menschheit vor allzu viel Hochmut zu bewahren.

An imaginatively rich fantasy. Some of the scenes are so breathtaking that seeing them on a wide screen in a cinema must be a blast. The story is weaker, the Pearl Harbor-style aerial combat mixed with Star Wars doesn't work very well. But if you like animated films, you’ll enjoy this because the creators didn’t spare the fantasy. Overall, a strong three stars.

A not very surprising film that combines entertainment for adults and children in the same way as classical animation and computer animation: not very well.

Pretty average. The animation didn't impress, the story was average, the way some of the villains making good at the end was unconvincing and there was far too little humor. IN A NUTSHELL: This is a bit of a blast from the past, and now it’s gone a bit stale.

It's not an animation that would be fundamentally exceptional by its story or execution, but it's something that can entertain the viewer - both children and adults. There is Atlantis, that's the basis, some mystery, villains and heroes that you can easily recognize, and above all something beautiful, mysterious, something that is connected to the alternative history of the Earth. It's a pity that it is so transparent. However, some scenes are visually stunning.
