Speed 2: Cruise Control

Ein Standard-Action-Unsinn mit einem Motorrad, einem Flugzeug, einem Schiff, einem Motorroller, einer Motorsäge und der coolen Musik von Mark Mancina. Ein bisschen schlechter als Waterworld, aber immer noch unterhaltsam. Manchmal anders, als es die Autoren wollten. Und das Finale ist bombastisch. (20.03.2006)

Intervention? Eine Frau hat erzählt... Ganz daneben wie der Tannenbaum, und nicht einmal meine Lieblingskoboldin Sandra Bullock kann ihn retten. Die Aneinanderreihung langweiliger Geschichten von einem Kreuzfahrtschiff, das von einem verrückten Sicherheitssoftwareentwickler gesteuert wird, wurde von dem absolut faden Jan de Bont mit einer blasierten und naiven Liebesgeschichte verwässert und mit einer ziemlich netten Explosion und einem spektakulären finalen Schiffbruch gekrönt. Jan De Bont basically drained all his energy on the first film, so the sequel is just a tired action ride, lacking any drive, compelling pace, or heroes to root for. Jason Patric tries as hard as he can, but the flawed script doesn't give him much opportunity to match up to Keanu Reeves’s performance from the first film. Sandra Bullock, once a tough driver, has turned into a ridiculous diva that starts getting on your nerves after about fifteen minutes. The finale is grand and quite alright, but otherwise it's an unnecessarily dragged-out and poorly executed action ride. A stupid and unnecessary sequel. (07.05.2005)

Maybe I'm nuts, but I'm always entertained by this typically American action flicks. It's got pace, plenty of humour and an insight that adds even more pizzazz to the already entertaining action scenes. As far as the actors are concerned, Sandra Bullock comes across a bit over the top, as almost always, but her comedy hits the spot in all the "suspenseful" scenes. Of course, the film’s biggest asset is the nasty villain played by the charismatic Willem Dafoe, who could have easily carried the whole thing on his own. And the final ride through the city is simply amazing! I'm not saying, and I doubt, that you'll like Speed 2, but you shouldn't be bored watching it either. 50%. (13.07.2011)

My relationship with this mockery is almost hatred. Jan de Bont took the hand-made action-romantic heart attack finish of the first part, destroyed it with a C-grade explanation, and sent Sandra to slow down the steamboat. And by doing so, he also sent this potentially very profitable series down the drain. (21.05.2006)
