Elefante (2011)

Englisch This is exactly why I believe short films can be excellent. There is an idea and a concept communicated, there is a great mask that is the centerpiece of the whole story, and finally there is also a stylization that gives it the right atmosphere. This is not seen in every short film. "Elefante" managed to entertain me and also move me. Well done.

The Garden of Steven (2012)

Englisch This is 22 minutes (including the end credits) that will tell you absolutely nothing. It almost appears to be an interesting romance, but it's actually a bit of a search for God and oneself. It's not interesting how it presents itself and in the end, it's exactly like the hero. Actually, it doesn't even know what it wants to say and what it believes in.

Filosofija noža (2008)

Englisch Andrey Iskanov did not shoot a film that had any significant value. The information provided to us is essentially identical to what you can find on Wikipedia. Definitely do not consider it as a documentary about the time and events. Yes, what is presented here could have happened, but I doubt it is based on any testimonies. Even a single witness looks unreliable. The scenes of experimentation (meaning torture) themselves are sometimes quite weak, and there are films that are technically more realistic and therefore more disgusting. That is only because the film primarily focused on disgust and its depiction.

Zotz! (1962)

Englisch I regret those bad cuts, which are quite plentiful here. They spoil the overall impression of this Castle "horror" comedy. William Castle is a legend in this field because he knew how to play with the film and the audience like no one else. "Zotz!", just by its title, is another example of his strange mastery. Castle's humor suits me and I also liked it in this essentially forgotten film.

Dinosaurier 3D - Im Reich der Giganten (2013)

Englisch Animation and graphics are definitely strong points, but that's about it. The visuals of the BBC documentaries - BBC was also involved in this film - seemed much more visually appealing and, above all, more mature. Their informative function was very well-executed. In this case, that's fine, but the story is terribly cliché and even the dinosaurs themselves can't save it.

Veronica Mars (2014)

Englisch I was quite surprised that the movie is understandable even for those who have never seen the series, which is also my case. It is also an introduction where basic information is briefly and simply summarized. The whole movie is then one case that Veronica and her friends solve, a little bit of her future is also discussed, there is a sense of nostalgia in it, but only fans will truly appreciate it. In the end, it's a fairly enjoyable movie that won't offend, but probably won't impress much either.

Matango (1963)

Englisch "Matango" is a film that is not a traditional portrayal of the Robinson myth, but still manages to depict psychological suffering, paranoia, and the overall difficulty of the situation very well, in order to transfer the intensity of the situation to the viewer, as well as the suspense of what will actually happen. It is a bit of a departure from classic kaiju films, but certainly not a departure in a negative sense of the word.

Unbreakable - Unzerbrechlich (2000)

Englisch One of the best films by M. Night Shyamalan, which I like also because it is based on superhero comics. I like the more civilian approach to superheroes, which is essentially brought to absolute realism. I like the slow shots and how the characters play. There is a hint of pathos, which prevails in Shyamalan's new films, but it is held to such an extent that it is more than bearable. Moreover, this time a good twist has been achieved as well. Even after years, I still really like this film. Maybe even a bit more, because this topic fascinates me.

Godzilla (2014)

Englisch I won't be so critical as to not see any mistakes in this film, there are quite a few of them in terms of logic, but this is still a movie that is based on kaiju films and essentially on B-movie production, where the story is usually a bit secondary and it's mainly about the monsters. I like that they are the main focus here because the human characters are not worth it. I was hoping that this would be somewhat like Japanese classics and in fact, it kind of fulfilled that for me. The American scenes also contribute to it, but the monsters are the winners and that's simply beautiful. I was expecting a messed up film, but I'm really glad with the result.

Old Mate (2013)

Englisch After a long time - maybe for the last time at "Descendants of Men" - I had a feeling that the shaky camera has a mind of its own. Plus, the amazing fog in the woods. An interesting film with a great atmosphere. If I tell you to jump out the window, will you jump? If your friend tells you to rob an old man, a cripple, living alone in the woods, will you do it? And do you realize the consequences? It's a shame the ending is quite empty.
