Die drei Pachyrhinosaurier Patchi, sein großer Bruder Scowler und das Weibchen Juniper werden in der gleichen Herde geboren und wachsen zusammen auf. Patchi ist der Sohn des Alphamännchens, aber auch der kleinste und schwächste von den drei Dino-Kindern. Doch gerade diese Voraussetzungen treiben ihn dazu an, seine Grenzen immer wieder auszutesten. Gemeinsam mit seinem besten Freund Alex (deutsche Stimme: Otto Waalkes), einem Vogel, erlebt der junge Dinosaurier allerhand Abenteuer und erkundet prähistorische Landschaften und Lebewesen. So wächst er nach und nach zu einem starken Erwachsenen heran, der die gesamte Herde auf eine nie dagewesene Wanderung führt. Während sich Juniper zu Patchis heimlicher Liebe entwickelt, wird sein großer Bruder mit der Zeit zu Patchis schärfstem Konkurrenten...
Der Animationsfilm basiert auf der beliebten BBC-Serie "Walking with Dinosaurs".

Animation and graphics are definitely strong points, but that's about it. The visuals of the BBC documentaries - BBC was also involved in this film - seemed much more visually appealing and, above all, more mature. Their informative function was very well-executed. In this case, that's fine, but the story is terribly cliché and even the dinosaurs themselves can't save it.

Walking with Dinosaurs is a film with breathtaking effects on par with Jurassic Park and the BBC documentaries, but the story is prosaic, due to the fact that it is primarily intended for a younger and less demanding audience. Still, I was amused by some of the one-liners, so I can't say it was a complete failure script-wise. This is another film that chose the popular journey of these formidable creatures from A to B, so I especially enjoyed the visuals, which were really top-notch. All in all, an enjoyable and simple diversion that's fine to watch and doesn't require any unnecessary thinking.
