Luminaris (2011)

Englisch Stop-motion animation with live actors has something special to it and creates an interesting impression. Added to this is a beautifully absurd story that simply must captivate. And if it doesn’t, you simply won't enjoy this film. I enjoyed both the magical animation and the enchanting story. Some ideas are truly incredible, and I almost envy the creators for them.

Dance, Girl, Dance (1940)

Englisch It's not quite the exceptional film that the authors of "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die" make it out to be, but it still has a good concept and great characters, especially the female ones, of course. This is the element that makes the film interesting, and it reaches its peak, unfortunately, only in the final scenes. Otherwise, this is unlikely to become one of your favorite films.

E.T. - Der Außerirdische (1982)

Englisch As a family film, there is little to criticize, and Spielberg has a knack for truly epic and memorable scenes. There are several of them here. He also has a knack for choosing the right actors. But I've just never been into E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial, and that hasn't changed even now. It’s nice, but it simply doesn't move me. Maybe the film is just too famous.

Mr. Foley (2009)

Englisch This shows that when the creators are playful, it is nicely reflected in the entire film. There is one good idea here, presented humorously, but also absurdly. This is further supported by the excellent cyclical point, which shows that there are actually more ideas and that the story could continue. However, the film is cut off at the right moment, which is a good thing.

Sleeping Betty (2007)

Englisch A nice animated comedy with quite a few promising gags, but unfortunately, the overall point is weaker. Fortunately, the graphic design helps a lot, as it is simply beautiful. The creators also play interestingly with the animation, enhancing the humor of some scenes. In that respect, the film is very enjoyable.

Früchte des Zorns (1940)

Englisch A gritty film that effectively portrays what America was like in the 1930s, but I simply didn't feel that the movie managed to impress me in any way. It’s a good film with quite a few weak scenes, dominated by the unique Henry Fonda. Some of the thoughts expressed by the characters are excellent, but I feel that the film owes this to Steinbeck.

Den Tod überlistet (1959)

Englisch The Man Who Could Cheat Death is a fairly classic film from Hammer Studios' early days, where there is an effort to scare, but at times it is still quite sterile, which is definitely a shame. However, it has its charm, and for lovers of old horror films, it is a pleasant little treat. The story can no longer surprise, as it is quite well-known today, and you quickly figure out what it's all about. That doesn't prevent the film from being at least good.

Unheimliche Begegnung der dritten Art (1977)

Englisch One of the most breathtaking sci-fi films ever made. And yet it's just about one guy who loses his mind a bit and tries to sculpt a mountain that he envisions. But that mountain probably exists somewhere. Excellent characters, an excellent ending, and brilliantly shot scenes without a single bad one. Steven Spielberg isn't my favorite director, but this is his best film.

Vicky and Sam (2010)

Englisch It's not a great work, and ultimately, it's not even very imaginative, but on the other hand, I like this game with reality. It shows how powerful imagination can be when it’s used. Sure, it's far-fetched, and yes, it could have been even more exaggerated, but in this form, it's quite good as well.

Caine's Arcade (2012)

Englisch What the film is about is interesting. The way the film is executed is quite ordinary, which bothered me a bit. I couldn't see what was supposed to captivate me, apart from what it depicted. Maybe that should be enough for a documentary, but for me, the film comes across more as a highlight of something interesting rather than a comprehensive work that brings something extra.
