Die Höhle der vergessenen Träume (2010)

Englisch A beautiful glimpse into a cave where an ordinary person wouldn't usually venture, at least not someone who isn't a scientist or doesn't work within the cave system. Werner Herzog brings an interesting documentary with personal commentary that sometimes disrupts the experience, while other times it deepens it. Even so, the film remains a unique experience you won't find anywhere else.

Leprechaun: Origins (2014)

Englisch Leprechaun: Origins definitely doesn't belong to the films that should revive a series that has already faded for some. It's a film that is tragically boring and uninteresting in its execution. There's nothing here to enchant you about the series or why you should dedicate your time to it. If even older films are similar, it's quite striking that they've reached the seventh installment, but then again, in horror, nothing is impossible.

Die Verdammten des Krieges (1989)

Englisch When you look at this film with some distance, you realize how simple the whole story actually is. But its simplicity is its strength. With its straightforward storytelling, it leads us to understand what war really means, particularly such a senseless one, and how it leaves its mark on the participants. Sean Penn is disgusting, which only showcases his abilities.

Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004)

Englisch I'm biased, but I can't help it. Michael Moore points out the facts that no one really wants to look at. He's even more biased, not objective, cherry-picking what suits him, but he creates an overall image that is believable, which is the saddest thing about him. Don't you then feel that you influence very little in your life? I guess we're just lucky we're not Americans.

Frühlingserzählung (1990)

Englisch I can't help it, but when I watched it, I just kept thinking: "This is exactly the kind of chatty European film that I'm not particularly fond of." Sure, it's about relationships, it's about human nature, but it's simply presented in a way that didn't resonate with me as much, and because of that, I didn't feel like watching the film attentively for a second time.

Catch-22 - Der böse Trick (1970)

Englisch When I finished watching this movie, I thought I should finally read the book, because it intrigues me. Catch-22 continues in the spirit of Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb and manages to be excellently critical as well as extremely funny. Not many anti-war films can do that quite like this one.

Burlesque (2010)

Englisch An incredibly cliché film about an ordinary girl who, with courage and talent, enters the world of vaudeville and becomes a sensation, even though she must learn how to be a proper girl and not a bitch. And, of course, there are also love troubles. Watch it just for Cher and Christina's voices. There is no other reason to watch. Yeah, Christina's pretty hot in places.

Brubaker (1980)

Englisch Robert Redford is such a great and powerful actor that he can convince you that this prison drama, which is approached a bit differently, is indeed original and somewhat new. In reality, however, it doesn't bring anything all that groundbreaking, just another human perspective on prisoners. But you'll still enjoy it. At least I enjoyed it immensely.

Yoga Hosers (2016)

Englisch I like Kevin Smith and I like his sense of humor, as well as some of the jokes that are used in Yoga Hosers. The voice actor here is absolutely superb and really entertained me. Otherwise, this is just a hodgepodge that serves as an advertisement for the Smith-Depp duo, in this case, of course, referring to their daughters, because both of their fathers are dreadful in this film, and their characters are tragic.

Bowling for Columbine (2002)

Englisch It felt a bit cheap how Michael Moore chose Charlton Heston as the sacrificial lamb here; there are surely others who could be blamed as well. However, one understands it when realizing that Heston was a public figure who expressed his views clearly. It’s another demonstration of how Moore can pick an interesting topic, go after it like a dog, and kind of launder your opinions and emotions.
