Santiago Fillol is a film director, screenwriter, and producer with a Ph.D. in Audiovisual Communication from Pompeu Fabra University, where he is a professor. Fillol’s directorial and screenwriting debut came in 2009 with Ich bin Enric Marco, which was present at the SSIFF and Locarno. Sharing his career as a screenwriter with Óliver Laxe, he created two of the best-known features of his filmography: Mimosas in 2016 and Fire Will Come in 2019, winner of the Gaudí Award for Best European Film and the Best Screenplay Award at the Mar de Plata International Film Festival. Matadero (2022) was nominated for a Golden Leopard at Locarno.
