Biografie

Filmmaker, artist, screenwriter and animator Latvian-born Signe Baumane has been living and working in Brooklyn, New York, for some years. Studying Philosophy at the University of Moscow. She has sixteen short films under her belt, which have been awarded at festivals like Ann Arbor, Tallinn and Ottawa, one of her shortfilms for instance, Teat Beat of Sex, is a look on sex from women’s point of view, full of humour and irreverence. Mental health and intergenerational trauma are the subjects of her first feature film Rocks in my Pockets, premiered at Karlovy Vary in 2014 and recipient of the Fipresci Award, which was screened at more than 130 festivals and premiered at cinemas in the US. My Love Affair With Marriage premiered at Tribeca and Annecy, where it received a Special Mention.
