Signe Baumane

She was born in Latvia and educated in Moscow. She has a BA degree in Philosophy. She started to work at Riga’s Animated Film Studio. In a few years she gained enough experience to write, direct, design 3 animated shorts. The films were recognized at the international festival circle. She gained a good reputation as a new Latvian animation director. She left Riga in 1995 for New York, and in 2002 she started her own small studio. In New York she has produced and co-produced, written, directed and designed 8 independent animated shorts. She has also continued her collaboration with Latvia’s leading animation studio - Rija Films. Her films have been screened at such prestigious festivals as Annecy, Tribeca, Sundance, Berlin, Ottawa and they have received numerous awards. In 2009 she has directed Birth.
