Die drei Mäuse, Professor Konrad, der dicke Knut und ihr Boss Marvin leben in einem New Yorker Kino: Der Sie lieben Humphrey Bogart und beschließen, inspiriert von seinen grandiosen Gangsterfilmen, nun selbst ein ” großes Ding” zu drehen. Sie planen den Einbruch des Jahrhunderts in die Käsehandlung an der Ecke. Den dicken Kater Giovanni haben die drei Mäuse dabei nicht bedacht. As a young boy I never let any repeats of this go unwatched and my parents knew very well that on re-airing days there was no point in them planning any nonsense like a trip to the zoo or to Prague’s Matějská Funfair. I always wanted to be a man of the world like that Big Bad Marvin! And so to this day I look back with nostalgia at the times when I made believe the space behind the leather sofa (that’s right, leather!) was a pantry that I had to smuggle food out of. Hmm, now, years later, I no longer consider The Great Cheese Conspiracy to be the best ever toon, and in fact in some ways it almost disappointed me (mainly the animation). On the other hand I have always loved and I hope will always love these three “boys". If not, that will mean that my boyish soul has passed. I’m scared.
