Nami, a talk show hostess, tells her audience to send in home videos to profile on her late night program. Soon, she receives anonymous videotape in the mail, a tape containing terrifying imagery. She watches in horror as an unseen filmmaker follows a route to an abandoned factory and brutally tortures and kills a woman on camera. A camera crew is assembled and they set off to follow the videotape’s trail to the foreboding location. What they find there is a horror beyond imagination! There is someone or something in the mysterious building. Something waiting in the shadows to torture and murder them one by one… (Verleiher-Text)

Eine Fernsehreporterin und ihre Kollegen machen einen Ausflug in eine alte verlassene Fabrik, wo sie von einem sadistischen Mörder in einem Regenmantel massakriert werden. Die erste halbe Stunde sieht der Film leicht und "sportlich" aus, was in Kombination mit der Splatter-Brutalität und der Pop-Synthesizer-Musik sehr billig wirkt. Später wird es aber düster, der Film gibt Gas und entpuppt sich als ein Massaker-Streifen mit einem kleinen Budget, dessen Regie jedoch überraschend gut ist. Inhaltlich Psycho, formal Dario Argento und die Szenen der Morde (übrigens höllisch ausgefeilt) der harte Lucio Fulci. Eine Dream-come-true-Kombination von jedem Horrorfilm-Fan!

Right at the beginning of the film, the detailed scene of the cutting of skin and eye, accompanied by the leaking of the eye filler, suggests that this film will be no pushover. And indeed, what follows is a quality, suspenseful thriller, spiced with four brutal murders, two of which are very cleverly executed. One of the murders is accompanied by a long rape scene in a car, the director is a psychopath. The ending with the surprise moment didn't scare me, it made me laugh. The overall impression is a bit awkward, but for the few macabre moments and the clever photo-flash scene I won't go below 3*.

Die Eröffnungsszene mit der detaillierten Augenschnittszene, die stark an Fulcis kontroversen Schlitzer aus New York erinnert, lässt auf ein kompromissloses Massaker schließen. Und in der ersten Hälfte des Films ist es tatsächlich so. Neben einer gelungenen Atmosphäre verwöhnt der Film den Zuschauer mit mehreren Brutalitäten, von denen eine schlimmer ist als die andere. Die zweite Hälfte gerät jedoch bald in eine abgedrehte Seltsamkeit, die sich immer weiter zieht, und endet zudem mit einem etwas bizarreren Gorefest, das dem vorherigen Geschehen kaum gerecht wird. Das ist wirklich schade, besonders wenn die erste Hälfte des Films fast perfekt war. Aus gesundem Interesse werde ich jedoch weitere zwei Fortsetzungen geben.

The Japanese are badasses and it must be admitted that they are able to present even a very gritty and bloody film in such a way that you are often left at your wit’s end. This has an interesting plot, it's suspenseful, and it's dirty, but it also has a great musical component that doesn't suit the film on first listen. However, it all works well together.
