Der Film spielt in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts in der heißen und unwirtlichen Wüste von Mexiko. Der wortkarge amerikanische Söldner Hogan rettet eine Nonne vor drei betrunkenen Cowboys. Nach einer kurzen Schießerei sind die Betrunkenen tot und die Nonne Sarah, die sich im späteren Verlauf der Geschichte als verkleidete Prostituierte erweist, weicht dem mürrischen Hogan nicht mehr von der Seite. Gemeinsam haben sie ein Ziel – der Kampf gegen die Franzosen. Doch während Sarah für die Befreiung Mexikos kämpft, hat Hogan nur eines im Sinn – den Goldschatz der Franzosen. (Verleiher-Text)
