CIA-Agent Kevin Pope ist bei dem Versuch, eine gestohlene Nuklearwaffe wiederzubeschaffen, ums Leben gekommen. Jetzt muss sein ahnungsloser Zwillingsbruder Jake Hayes für ihn einspringen. Der erfahrene Geheimdienstprofi Gaylord Oakes soll den kleinkriminellen Buchmacher zum Topagenten aufbauen. Bad Company ist ein zu langwieriger und monotoner Actionfilm über Agenten. Seinen Schwung, sein Drehbuch, seine Stimmung und seine Actionszenen kann man nicht mit Mission: Impossible vergleichen. Eine einfallslose Routine ohne Steigerung. Das Mentor-Potenzial der Persönlichkeit von Anthony Hopkins wurde auch nicht genutzt. An seiner Stelle könnte ein anderer Schauspieler sein und es würde sich nichts ändern.

Schumacher's work is a bit of a mystery to me. On the one hand, he is able to pick an interesting script and turn it into a complete hit, like Phone Booth, 8 MM and Falling Down, on the other hand, he flirts too often with mediocrity. Bad Company is an action flick that doesn’t have anything to offer. The script is full of clichés, predictable, and I'm tired of those "last second" endings I've seen hundreds of times. Hopkins must be doing pretty bad to take such poorly written roles, but if he's taking them, he could at least pretend to enjoy it; here he looked tired and uninterested. Anything good about it? Maybe those few shots that looked like a travel agent’s advert for a trip to Prague, which is far from enough for one movie. PS: I don't like the overacting Chris Rock, but he was surprisingly watchable in this film.

Joel Schumacher's classic dynamic direction with fast camera, cuts, decent pace, and fast music is very good. The film could have been better, but let's be glad it turned out at least like this and it wasn't another flop like Batman's. I really liked Chris Rock's wisecracks and Anthony Hopkins' calmness. Surprisingly, a well-chosen cast.

Ein (unter)durchschnittlicher Actionfilm, bei dem vor allem der Schauplatz und Karel Gott interessant sind. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass Anthony Hopkins die Dreharbeiten überhaupt nicht Spaß gemacht haben. Das wundert mich nicht. Falls die Autoren wollten, dass so etwas wie Der Staatsfeind Nr.1 entsteht, dann ist es ihnen nicht gelungen. Trotzdem hat der Film ein paar gute Momente, es gibt auch ein paar Actionszenen, die OK sind, und einige lustige Witze.
