Attenboroughs Lebensbotschaft kurz und bündig. Vielleicht ein bisschen vereinfacht geschildert, aber so könnten das endlich auch diejenigen begreifen, die sich vor allem darüber Gedanken machen sollten. (12.10.2020)

An epitaph of humanity with room for a potentially successful future happy ending that is shrouded in uncertainty and question marks. Attenborough communicates it simply, engagingly and clearly. David Attenborough macht ein Ausrufezeichen hinter der tollen Serie Unser Planet. In seinem Alter von 94 Jahren ist es eine sehr persönliche Aussage von jemandem, der das Glück hatte, allerlei Schönes zu sehen, und gleichzeitig Pech, weil er miterleben musste, wie es verschwindet. Wer sonst sollte der Menschheit erklären, wie blöd der Mensch ist und was man damit machen kann, wenn nicht dieser bewundernswerte Kerl. Wenn Sie im Leben nur noch einen einzigen Dokumentarfilm sehen sollten, sollte es dieser sein. (05.10.2020)

Is there any other documentary that everyone should watch in the XXI century? A strong statement by a wise gentleman that will sadden you, but which holds the necessary life-giving positivism of the appealing ecologist. Most of the praise is addressed not only at the “contents”, but also at the very execution of the documentary, it’s graceful connection of objective facts with a subjective appeal, the dramaturgical coherence, its intelligibility and the “minor details” like the gorgeous music and the breathtaking images. A great job and a very important message, which may have arrived late but it can also be a beginning. (15.10.2020)

David Attenborough erzählt von seinem Leben und liefert einen übersichtlichen und verständlichen Appell zum Thema Umweltschutz im Zusammenhang mit den Veränderungen, die in den letzten Jahrzehnten auf der Erde stattgefunden haben. Der Film dient daher nicht nur als perfekte Zusammenfassung der Karriere dieses berühmten Dokumentarfilmemachers, sondern auch als wichtige Botschaft über den Zustand der Umwelt, in dem jedoch anstatt nach Schuldigen konstruktive Vorschläge und Visionen vorgestellt werden. "...to continue we require more than inteligence - we require wisdom." Das Leben auf unserem Planeten ist ein atemberaubendes Zeugnis für einen Mann, der selbst in einem so gesegneten Alter vor unglaublicher Entschlossenheit strotzt, uns Menschen mitzuteilen, in welchem Stadium sich "Mutter Erde" befindet und wie wir unsere Beziehung zu der "allgegenwärtigen" Natur, die wir uns so egoistisch angeeignet haben, anpassen können. David Attenborough hat ein langes Leben hinter sich, und wenn er zurückblickt, kann er auf vieles zurückblicken - sowohl auf die guten Zeiten als auch auf die traurigen Realitäten, die im letzten Jahrhundert durch unsere kollektive Schuld entstanden sind. Aus technischer Sicht ist es ein klassisches, ausgezeichnetes Erlebnis, das neben schönen Aufnahmen aus verschiedenen Teilen der Welt auch beängstigende Szenen der möglichen Zukunft bietet, die über uns hereinbrechen könnte. Der Film enthält viele interessante Ideen, und viele Weisheiten aus dem Munde des "Königs der Tierdokumentationen" sollten in Stein gemeißelt sein. I was originally going to write that this is a breathtaking moral appeal from a wise man, but this isn't so much about morality as it is about actual survival and preserving whatever we have left (for now). I felt that David Attenborough wasn't really telling me anything new, but I still had a strong urge to listen to him carefully and look at a number of things from a broader perspective. Plus, you'd be hard pressed to find someone more vocal and well-travelled who has seen truly and literally first-hand how humanity has been ravaging plant and animal species across the planet over the past few decades. One of the few examples of a film where its very mission made an isolated impression on me. I've heard a lot of objections that this has all been said before and that David Attenborough is really just repeating himself. Sadly, I still don't feel that his years of appeals for environmental protection have produced the desired results, so two thumbs (and toes) up for any similar eco-documentary that will spread these ideas. It got to me more than I had originally realized. I don't know what’s worse – the way we are decimating nature or the prognosis of what is yet to come. I must give credit to David Attenborough for being able to present an optimistic view of restoring our balance with nature. However, the future scenarios look so catastrophic and yet so realistic and logical that humanity is in for some serious trouble. Over the last 4 billion years of life on Earth, there have been five mass extinctions, and now the question is whether we are skyrocketing towards the point of no return, or we have already passed it, or whether humanity has the potential to recover and start actually taking care of the environment. Anyway, a great documentary, because if there’s anyone who has something to say, it's David Attenborough, who even at the age of 94 is still incredibly professional, with a more personal approach here than ever, which will surely make everyone stop and think.
