His House

Wenn die Geistergeschichte in der schäbigen Baracke schon im Film, der vom Sundance Institut unterstützt wurde, verdächtig einseitig wirkt, kommt das Drehbuch mit einem ziemlich starken Motiv, der das rettet. Aus dem Film wird dann eine ziemlich interessante Kombination von einem Drama über ein Flüchtlingstrauma und einem Horrorschrecken mit traditionellen Genre-Trick sowie einem intensiven Sound-Tuning. Seit Spuk in Hill House habe ich keine besser konzipierten und durchgeführten Gruselszenen gesehen. Obwohl der Film gegen Ende etwas an Standfestigkeit verliert, so bleibt diese originelle Mischung an sozialem Drama über Anpassungen und Traumata zweier Einwanderer sowie klassischem Spukhaus-Horror ein einzigartiges Beispiel für einen Film, in dem sich Genre- mit Kunstambitionen vereinen. Es fungiert als Metapher der Schuld und Entfremdung sowie als intensiver Horror, bei welchem Dinge aus dem Inneren auf die Wände des Hauses projiziert werden. Eines der Top-Filmdebüts des Jahres! Ich sehe, dass es wieder große Anforderungen an die lokale Brown Association of Friends of Film Lobotomy stellt, aber Jungs, ihr könnt euch immer noch der Neuvermessung diverser Körperteile von Hunden widmen, denn das wird euch besser gelingen. This year’s dark horse turned out even better than I expected, definitely the scariest horror film of the year for me. Netflix is saving this year full steam ahead and I'm really thankful for His House. For the first time in a while, an original film that brings a lot of new and interesting attributes to the genre that I'm really excited about. The film has an intense atmosphere (I was scared during the first 40 minutes), the director literally fires the scares with a machine gun in such short and intense intervals that my heart jumped out of my throat like it hasn't in a long time. His House is very precise in its details, with good performances, Oscar-worthy for its music and cinematography, and to top it off, it has an interesting plot twist that isn't exactly customary in horror films. I liked the whole idea of the refugees not being able to leave the house and that really unpleasant things were happening there. The make-up effects are great, the atmosphere is great as hell, in the cinema this film would probably bring the ceiling down. After watching the film, James Wan had three new grey hairs and one wrinkle on his forehead as the new game changer is on the scene! The combination of refugee themes and horror is an excellent idea, but unfortunately the result is a sometimes impressive, but at the same time too simple, elementary metaphor. It’s a shame. (31.10.2020)

The British movie His House should definitely not be overlooked just because it deals with a subject that some may find a bit too basic. There is a superb portrayal of a personal tragedy and the need to deal with it somehow because otherwise, you could go mad. The movie manages to affect the viewer in a very intense way. (10.11.2020)
