Die beiden Special-Agents werden diesmal zu einem Fall in den Wald gerufen. Dort wollen zwei Junkies ein echsenartiges Monster gesehen haben, das einen Tierfänger angegriffen hat. Zur Überraschung von Scully und Mulder hat der Mann überlebt. Anscheinend hat es jedoch noch einen Überfall gegeben, da in der Nähe des Tatorts eine Leiche mit aufgerissener Kehle gefunden wird. Scully und Mulder sind dem Monster auf der Spur und entdecken Unglaubliches! (ORF)

During the cold opening I told myself “oh, oh! this is not for me”. The funny episodes of The X-Files never were my favourite and I had the creeping feeling that this one would be a disappointment, that it was taking valuable space in the limited scope of a six-episode revival. But after a while, it started to work on me and I had a lot of fun. The entire climax that begins with the meeting in the graveyard was hilarious and exceeded my expectations.

Yeah, this is how I like my Mulder. Occasional playful and conscious metaparodic episodes have always been an integral part of the X-Files, after all, there is a reason why many of them are simply one of the best shows that were ever created for television screens in the 1990s. And no one could make them better than Darin Morgan. Although this is not one of the absolute best, it does not mean in the slightest that it perhaps lacks an idea or is not packed with one-liners, is not funny and is not well-build despite all that over the top staff. Because it is really good. That is for sure.
