Old School – Wir lassen absolut nichts anbrennen

Comedies about guys who are approaching their third decade and realize that their best years are behind them, but refuse to accept it, have been made plenty of times. Old School, however, is original in its own way. Original in the form of a group of guys who decided to break free from social stereotypes and live life on their own terms. Director Todd Phillips has a good hand for comedies like this. Road Trip - teenagers, Starsky & Hutch - a gentle parody of the classic series. Audiences shouldn't look for anything in Old School. People should just get on the boat and trust the captain to show him all the places during the journey along the rivers called "Stereotype and Cliché." Don't worry about the story. As the film appears at the beginning, so it ends. It’s funny, dry, silly, awkward, but never boring. There's always something to see. Well, not always because a naked Will Ferrell running down the street is really... Actually, it belongs in the "embarrassing" column. Luke Wilson's acting is about the same as that of his brother Owen (the same faces). Yet the unassuming Vince Vaughn has been in the spotlight for a while now, and I have to admit that while his acting may not be extraordinary, he possesses a cute comedic charm. He has one of the most charismatic voices in Hollywood. Old School will be fun for all those who do not try to find something in it. And if they do, they'll probably be disappointed. (05.02.2005)

Vince Vaughn bringt mich bereits zum Lachen, wenn ich ihn das erste Mal sehe, sein Ausdruck, seine gewaltige Gestalt und das spitzbübische Lächeln macht ihn für mich zu einem der besten Komiker. Old School - Wir lassen absolut nichts anbrennen gehört jedoch nicht zu seinen am besten gelungenen Komödien wie Voll auf die Nüsse, Die Hochzeits-Crasher oder Die Affäre. Das Sujet erinnerte mich an den Streifen S.H.I.T. - Die Highschool GmbH, der etwas später gedreht wurde, man kann also nicht davon sprechen, dass die Idee geklaut worden wäre, doch es scheint mir, dass es den Machern nicht gelungen ist, das Maximum herauszuholen, obwohl ihnen so ein tolles Trio von Komikern, ergänzt um den Bösewicht Piven, zur Verfügung stand. Einige Witze waren Knaller wie in Voll auf die Nüsse, andere leider peinlich. Vince Vaughn hat mich jedoch nicht enttäuscht, doch das nächste Mal schaue ich mir lieber noch mal Voll auf die Nüsse an. A juvenile comedy where the creators also squeezed in romantic elements, so it was inevitable to hit those worst, time-worn clichés. The humor often bordered on tasteless, leading to some cringeworthy moments. However... Despite all my criticisms, I found myself chuckling quite often, or at least smiling goofily, because it was actually pretty fun. Simple, straightforward, undemanding, predictable fun, and I'd be a hypocrite if I rated it lower than three stars. / Lesson learned: Never, never, never, never, never try for a surprise return home. Nice comedy, surprisingly Vince Vaughn didn't bother me, who I currently can't stand. Will Ferrell is exactly the kind of idiot one wishes for and he's not annoying, which is his problem nowadays. Story-wise, it's not that original, but it's nice that the romance is more of a side plot. It entertains, but "Youth in Revolt" is not a very impressive film for me. (06.05.2014)

I laughed a couple of times and had some decent fun with it, but there were also some rather awkward jokes that I could have done without. And when I add the quite lousy screenplay to that, I can't even give it a rating of weak three stars. (45%) (29.09.2021)
