Hoping for change, Ema (Jana Plodková) runs away from her family and leaves her husband. She hides at the apartment of her hairdresser, a gay guy Tony (Ondřej Nosálek), even though she barely knows him. At the beginning they are merely two strangers, connected by their mutual effort of escaping from their families. They get closer and help each other to overcome the internal, as well as external, obstacles of their lives. Their liberating friendship almost becomes a love affair, despite the fact it cannot be fulfilled. This liberation creates an intense bond between them: a new escape, a new quest. This is a story of a lost girl, a homosexual hairdresser and their attempts to escape the trap of their own desires of belonging to somebody. This is a love story of the 21st century. Originally, I’d wanted to see Us 2 mainly because of Jana Plodková. What I hadn’t expected was that I would be surprised by Ondřej Nosálek as well. I should add that this movie literally lives and dies with the acting performances. For instance, Adam Mišík portrays a character he definitely deserves. On the other hand, the story is a bit stupid and even though it is based on a good idea, there are several moments that I didn’t really understand well. However, a three-star review is definitely adequate. I got what I’d wanted and I was even satisfied after the movie ended.

The theme is great. And it is equally great that it has come to fruition. But unfortunately, Slobodanka Radun has bitten off too much and made a film based on two actors without being able to bring them to work together in terms of their acting. I can imagine US 2 as an excellent intimate TV film, but without Plodková and without the unnecessary attempt at the big screen, which simply didn't work. The current civil issues are by their very nature not here to be explained.

Dieser Film hat mir unglaublich gut in die Stimmung gepasst, und ich bewerte ihn hoch wegen wirklich schöner Momente und Szenen. Die sympathischen Leistungen des Hauptduos, eine gute Kamera, tolle Musik, nach langer Zeit ein Film, der mich angesprochen und mir tatsächlich gefallen hat, auch wenn ich natürlich einige Negativa erwähnen könnte. Eine verdiente Schauspielernominierung für Ondřej Nosálek.

The director Slobodanka Radun really hit the spot with her unusual feature debut, and the central couple played by Jana Plodková and Ondřej Nosálek really grew on me during the movie. And, most importantly, I really believed in their intimate friendship, which slowly grew into an unusual love relationship. Healing a hurting soul is often harder than winning a fight against cancer. The wonderfully wistful musical accompaniment provided by Jan P. Muchow was a balm for my ears. (80%)
