Der kleine Terrier Max hat bei Katie in Manhattan sein Glück gefunden. Während sein Frauchen in der Arbeit ist, vertreibt er sich mit den benachbarten Haustieren die Zeit. Als Katie mit dem ungehobelten, zotteligen Streuner Duke nach Hause kommt, entbrennt ein Streit ums traute Heim. Dabei gehen Max und Duke Hundefängern ins Netz, werden aber von dem rachsüchtigen Kaninchen Snowball und dessen wilder Bande verstoßener Haustiere befreit. Während die beiden ihnen in die New Yorker Kanalisation folgen müssen, startet Zwergspitzhündin Gidget eine beherzte Suchaktion nach Max. (ORF)
