Die Croods – Alles auf Anfang

Croods 2 ist ein richtig flottes Spektakel, das vor Ideenreichtum und farbenfrohen Animationen nur so strotzt, und die Macher haben der Fantasie keine Grenzen gesetzt. Auch wenn der Film storytechnisch nichts besonders Neues bietet und die Autoren vielleicht stellenweise zu sehr versucht haben, didaktisch zu sein, ist es ein sehr netter und gewaltfrei witziger Zeichentrickfilm, der mich mehr als einmal aus vollem Herzen lachen ließ - ob es nun ein gemeinsames Abendessen, eine mit offenen Augen schlafende Großmutter, eine verrückte Serie von ausgestochenen Augen oder die körperliche Ansprache der "Buster" war. Wer hätte gedacht, dass es neben den Minions einen weiteren Zeichentrickfilm geben würde, in dem Bananen eine so wichtige Rolle spielen würden. Wenn der Film erfolgreich ist und die Filmemacher ein weiteres fantasievolles und humorvolles Abenteuer in petto haben, hätte ich überhaupt nichts gegen einen dritten Teil einzuwenden. (30.12.2020)

It looked like Soul was going to be the animated film of the year, but I managed to catch up with the Croods and it's decided. After Zootropolis, The Croods 2 is for me without a doubt the best animated film ever. There are new characters living in paradise and the differences between modern and stone age are very good. I found the cadence of the humour here to be about twice more intense than in the first film, and the scene where the son pulls the couch with food up to the big window thinking he's going to watch a movie cracked me up. Beautiful, sweet, funny, bloody entertaining and with lots of interesting ideas. It fit me incredibly well. The story is great, the new characters are good, the monkey language was fun and the beginnings of television have never been portrayed so funny. If the story didn’t stumble so much in the second half and they didn’t repeat the same morals over and over again, it could have been better than excellent. And Cage’s unhinged voice acting is awesome. (19.12.2020)

Compared to the first film, this one is more complex. There are many more conflicts, and they tie in well with each other. I dare say that the film is funnier because the humour is punchy and comes more from the situations than the dialogue. The second half of the film wasn't so much fun and it was topped off by the text describing the "characters", without which the whole ending could have been completely dispensed with. I must also give a positive assessment of the monkey talk, which is aptly complemented by the subtitles. The film does a great job of depicting various stereotypes in the family and society in general, yet it doesn't make the characters too stylized. Overall, I enjoyed the film and I think it's a very well done film. I would put both films on the same level, as they don't outdo each other and don't really try to. The fifth star was taken away by the repetitive gags and the previously mentioned text in the picture. (27.03.2021)
