T2: Trainspotting

Trainspotting war, wie auf einen D-Zug aufzuspringen, der nirgendwo hinfährt. T2 ist wiederum, wie auf einen Zug zu warten, der schon lange abgefahren ist. Die Tatsache, dass der Film diese vergebliche Nostalgie mitsamt dieses vergeblichen Zyklus als eines der Hauptelemente des Handlungsstrangs sowie der neuen Schicksale der alten Charaktere angeht, erachte ich als einen mildernden Umstand, jedoch nicht als Erlösung und Qualitätsmerkmal. Es ist, als würde man zwei Stunden mit einem Menschen zusammen sitzen, welcher die besten Jahre schon hinter sich hat und packend davon erzählt, welch eine tolle Fahrt die 1990er waren. Da hört man schon zu, jedoch am Ende sind wir froh, dass wir ihn (vielleicht) nie wieder sehen werden. (14.02.2017)

Es ist prima, sich mit ihnen nach so langer Zeit zu treffen. Ihre Figuren sind einfach super und die Chemie zwischen ihnen funktioniert immer noch. Die Szene Renton/Begbie auf den Toiletten ist die beste im Film. Boyle ist noch dazu ein ewiger Maler und ein Videoclip-Fachmann. Aber… Allen musste klar sein, dass das Drehbuch, der Anlass zu ihrem neuen Treffen und alles, was daraus wird, schwach ist. Dass es eine zwanghafte Begegnung ist. Was mir egal wäre, wenn ich den ersten Teil nicht für einen Kultfilm halten würde. Und bei Boyle habe ich gedacht, dass er ein Künstler ist, der so etwas nicht nötig hat. (27.02.2017)

I don't know what Danny Boyle intended to do with this sequel to the original Trainspotting, but unfortunately, he didn't manage to get rid of the nostalgia that tends to run through all sequels, perhaps across all cinemas around the world. And the more years since the first movie, the more nostalgic these sequels tend to get. Trainspotting included. (06.09.2017)

A bunch of unlikeable characters return to the scene and it's pretty boring. Instead of drugs, they drop a couple of beers at most, the humour has disappeared, there are no interesting scenes and the fact that I had to see the film three times to get a positive report card doesn't do much either. 50% (30.05.2017)

I didn't expect much from it, I didn't really have much of a desire to know what was happening with Renton and his gang at the age of forty-five. In the end, I am pleasantly surprised. The question is whether the fans will see it the same way. T2 Trainspotting doesn't really have much in common with the original Trainspotting. There's Edinburgh, the old gang, drugs, a great soundtrack, and Danny Boyle's unique and captivating direction, but the atmosphere is quite different this time. Instead of carefree young lads who don't care about the future, there are depressed wrecks who have long realized that they've completely fucked up their lives and that it was good while it lasted. And the only thing they have left are memories, nostalgia, and old acquaintances who have hardly changed at all. T2 Trainspotting is actually quite sad, but it's a truthful film about how one can't escape the past and oneself, and that one can either give up or take life as it is, and as such, it works brilliantly.
