The protagonists of this well-known tale from Fimfárum by Jan Werich are the stingy Barka and other citizens of Dejvice where nothing is given but everything is stolen and envied. Stingy Barka is more a modern story than a classic fairy-tale. Like all of Werich's fairy-tales, this one is also full of humour and wisdom. (Anifilm)

Jan Werich knew about the typically Czech cunning and greed long before it proliferated to unprecedented levels in the country. Proof of that is his brilliant morality play Mean Barka from Dejvice. With unmistakable wit and insight, he hit the nail on the head, and the vast majority of his observations still apply today.
