He trusts nothing but his own sword. He has no place to call home. The lone mercenary Guts travels a land ravaged by a hundred-year war. Moving from battlefield to battlefield, his skill and ferocity eventually attract the attention of Griffith, the leader of a group of mercenaries called The Band of the Hawk. Desiring Guts's power to help him achieve his goals, Griffith succeeds in recruiting the distrustful Guts by challenging him to a duel and defeating him. As the Band of the Hawk fight together and their bond as a unit grows stronger, Griffith and Guts's bond deepens as well. With their continued success on the battlefield, Griffith achieves the first step toward his lofty goals: his band of mercenaries becomes recognised as a full-fledged army within the Midland Kingdom. Despite all their success, Guts begins to question his reasons for fighting for Griffith's dream, which, unbeknownst to Guts, is destined to bestow a monstrous fate on them both. Englisch Berserk returns to where we first met him, promising us answers to the questions that left viewers speechless after the last episode of the series. I have never delved into the extensive source material, so I am truly grateful to the creators for this bold effort. And even more so, I am delighted that I can be grateful not only for the effort, but also for the result. Královo vejce maps out the opening third of the anime, which had the least impact on me during my initial viewing, and adapts it so skillfully that I gladly forget any criticisms this time. The fragmented adventures with the Band of the Hawk have been replaced with a swift allocation of characters, which may not reach the expected depth, but their iconic division into a leader, a warrior, and a stubborn female heroine works perfectly. Furthermore, there will be time for better character development in the second installment, allowing us to thoroughly delve into key events such as the encounter with Zodd or the intrigues surrounding Lord Julius. In the new animation, it is an incredible feast for the eyes, which captivated me and made Guts, Griffith, and Casca crawl under my skin even in such a short period of time that the few months until the continuation suddenly seem unnecessarily long.
