High Lane - Schau nicht nach unten!

Der erste Spielfilm, der sich auf einer via feratta abspielt? Ja, und mit einem soliden Anfang und einer prima Kamera. Aber sobald der tötende Wahnsinnige erscheint und das Outdoor-Abenteuer ein Massaker-Film sein möchte, ist die ganze Frische weg. Die übrigen zwei Drittel des Films sind nämlich nur zusammengeklebte Szenen aus allen möglichen Wald- und Texas-Massaker-Filmen. Auch wenn es sich um Ihren ersten Film dieser Art handeln sollte, funktioniert in ihm die Spannung im Vergleich zu seinen bekannteren Vorgängern nur zur Hälfte. Die Schauspieler*innen sind auch unterdurchschnittlich. Eine mäßige Länge und das schnelle Tempo der Handlung helfen dem Film, sie retten ihn aber nicht. (31.10.2010)

In the Balkans, don’t leave the marked paths, and never go into closed trails! Excellent survival film that in the middle turns into hixploitation and really manages to hold your attention. It didn’t disappoint. (25.12.2009)

The beginning is very good, as has already been said several times. Impressive setting, deep rock ravines, imaginative cinematography and above all the growing anticipation towards the crucial second half. Unfortunately, along with the first victim, the script itself seems to get trapped, unable to break free from the tight grip of cliché and blandness that has apparently doomed the vast majority of modern horror films. The camera is increasingly distracted, with frantic editing and, in a complete darkness that the viewer finds hard to navigate, the real tension leaves with the arrival of the homicidal maniac. It's true that he doesn't fool around and tries to kill as many of our heroes as possible in record time, but this doesn't contribute to the hundreds of other murderous games that are mostly just as stupid and can have only two possible endings: either the killer turns out to be one of the apparently good guys, or the whole thing ends with a spectacular showdown with the villain and a big happy ending. At least here the creators avoided something like that, even though, according to their opinion, a person with a slashed throat is still able to run a marathon:)) It didn't impress, but it didn't disappoint either... I had a moment where I felt like the movie High Lane could be an exceptional film, but it's not exceptional; it's quite average because it failed, especially in its second part, to surprise significantly and show that the beginning wasn't just a very good introduction to killing. The hillbillies here almost feel like a sore thumb to me, and I don't think it works as well as it could if the creators tried a slightly different antagonist. (31.03.2017)
