Eddie ist vierzig und bisher überzeugter Single. Just am Valentinstag glaubt er in Lila seine Traumfrau gefunden zu haben. Eine drohende Versetzung nach Europa drängt ihn zum Handeln. Und so heirateten die beiden nur wenige Wochen später. Dummerweise entpuppt sich Lila schon auf der Hochzeitsreise nach Mexiko als absoluter Alptraum. Ein Sonnenbrand rettet Eddie und verhilft ihm, die bezaubernde Miranda, eine Seelenverwandte, kennen zu lernen. Aber wie wird Eddie Nervensäge Lila wieder los? (ORF)

Thank you Malin Akerman for playing Stiller's wife perfectly. I cried with laughter!! Super relaxing with a good dose of humor... no punchline though.

It's amazing how low someone with the comedic potential of Ben Stiller can fall at times. The Heartbreak Kid is really weak, trying to pass itself off as a cute romantic comedy with lots of intelligent humour. But the opposite is true, the film doesn't hesitate to use the most turbulent and, in the second half, the most embarrassing means to make the viewer laugh, hiding behind Ben Stiller's torn expression, which I felt very sorry for indeed. Mainly because by participating in such a blatant piece of trash he’s making clear his gradual retreat from the A-list. Really a class weaker than Sandler's Just Go With It, there the romantic and amorous atmosphere well combined with the humour was at least felt, whereas here...

Komödien der Farrely-Brüder mag ich sehr gern, ihr Humor ist manchmal rau, und ich glaube, dass er für viele inakzeptabel ist, doch mich haben sie schon mit ihren ersten Werken gewonnen, die jedoch auch weiterhin unübertroffen bleiben. Ich schließe mich der hiesigen Meinung an, dass fast zwei Stunden zu lang sind und es nicht geschadet hätte, den Film um gute zwanzig Minuten zu kürzen. Ben Stiller ist traditionell toll, Michelle Monaghan niedlich und Malin Akerman ohne Nasenscheidewand hervorragend. Und bei den schauspielernden Mexikanern habe ich sehr laut gelacht. Eva Longoria streichelte am Schluss in mir das Gefühl eines heruntergeratterten Happyends. Die Farrelys sind witzig herausgeschlittert.

I realize that the Farrellys don't sit well with me. Their humor isn't bad, but I don't really understand what moral values they're trying to defend here. A dysfunctional family? Entertainment at the expense of other values - like drinking before driving? All with the inclusion of perverted jokes that are supposed to make you laugh. When they start moralizing, it's already a mess and doesn't even have that Sandler charm.
