In einem südamerikanischen Gefängnis wartet Joe Conrad auf die Todesstrafe als er unerwartet von einem Fernsehproduzenten freigekauft und auf eine einsame Insel geschafft wird, wo er gegen neun andere verurteilte Killer antreten muss. Nur der beste Kämpfer, sprich derjenige Todeskandidat, der es schafft, alle anderen zu töten, kann danach als freier Mann in sein altes Leben zurückkehren. Seinem brutalen Mitstreiter McStarley werden bei diesem Wettkampf um Leben und Tod die besten Chancen eingeräumt. Dabei möchte Joe nur eines: so schnell wie möglich zu seiner Familie zurückkehren. Doch zuvor muss er nicht nur gegen die anderen Todeskandidaten antreten, sondern auch die Organisatoren des menschenunwürdigen Spektakels, das per Live-Stream weltweit online mitverfolgt werden kann, zur Strecke bringen. Eine Verkörperung der Film-Doofheit. Manche Dinge werden von dem Film kritisiert, andererseits wird das Publikum mit diesen Dingen überschüttet. Solche Filme schaden dem Ruf der Hollywood-Kinematografie. Von Vinnie Jones hatte ich eine bessere Meinung. So eine Rolle nimmt nur ein verzweifelter Schauspieler an.

This could have been a perfect instant package of tasty B-movie that would have combined themes from Battle Royale and Undisputed... that is if it wasn't a) so blatantly "correct" (an honorable FBI agent, the twisted past of the main character, the blonde girlfriend), b) didn’t have full the contact fights so chaotically shot and edited, and c) wasn't so incredibly long. Beyond that, Steve Austin has decent charisma for an ex-wrestler, unlike the handsome John The Marine Cena, and Vinnie Jones scores full marks as the British representative of the tough guys. A good film worth a single watch that will come in handy for a Sunday evening after a busy week.

Entertaining and quite attractive for fans. Unfortunately, the action is slightly weak (bad editing). I think it would be hard to make it more imaginative, so within the genre, it is a solid average. With more organized action, fewer tears, and happy endings, it could have made it a solid hardcore fan-friendly carnage, but it's somewhere halfway. Steve Austin is pretty cool, though, that cannot be denied.

Still, I do think that it's a bit stretched out, but this is a film where Steve Austin and Vinnie Jones act really well, these are simply roles that are meant for them. You can watch them and it's not dumb. Although I missed it being a little more explicit and rough in some scenes, because those boundaries are visible, but this is just an interesting story that will always entertain in any execution. Well, probably...
