Rosso sangue

Ein italienischer Slasher-Film, der sich die Figur des Mörders aus dem Klassiker Man-Eater - Der Menschenfresser ausgeborgt hat, der ein Jahr zuvor erschienen ist. Ohne seine Stimmung und das tragische Geheimnis, mit einer einfachen Linie "ein Monster auf der Flucht mordet". Der intensive Soundtrack und die Figur des Priesters, der den "Boogeyman" verfolgt, deuten darauf hin, dass sich die Autoren bei Carpenters Halloween - Die Nacht des Grauens inspiriert haben. Es gibt hier aber keine Filmemacher-Invention, sondern nur grobe Gewalt, Härte und eine Gore-Brutalität. Ein durchschnittlicher, im Rahmen des Subgenres aber immer noch würdiger Eurotrash-Massaker. **1/2 (16.05.2021)

D'Amato stößt diesmal kein Tabu um (die verschlungene Frucht in Antropophagus war immerhin eine Verschiebung der Grenzen des filmischen Geschmacks, auch in Zeiten der kontroversen Kannibalen), aber dennoch ist Absurd ziemlich starkes Zeug. Aufgrund der expliziten Szenen, in denen der Wahnsinnige detailliert den Kopf seines Opfers mit einer Säge zerschneidet, und der rohen Herangehensweise schafft er an einigen Stellen wirklich dichte Atmosphäre. Vor allem in der letzten, höllischen halben Stunde, die an D'Amatos ein Jahr älteren Film Antropophagus erinnert. Ansonsten ist George Eastman als Mörder unglaublich überzeugend, er braucht keine Masken, er sieht einfach wie ein wahnsinniger Mörder aus. (30.09.2011)

I believe that George Eastman, the representative of the bloodthirsty beast, had a lot of fun writing the script and what he produced and made together with D.Amato is "pure" trash. The script and the performances are adequate, i.e. awful, there is no suspense and the scares don't work. However, compared to the poor first one, there is no boundless boredom, the gore is more frequent and more elaborate and the ending is quite good. D’Amato surprised me, so three and a half stars, which is too much for him :) (28.08.2004)

I don’t quite understand how this could get into the list of the cult videonasties. It has only about four brutal scenes that don’t even show that much and there aren’t any scenes with nakedness and sex, for a change. Even modern, more commercial stuff like Hostel or Borders would fit better in such list. The first fifteen minutes may be entertaining thanks to the raw atmosphere (typical for 1970s Euro-horror), but they can’t compensate for the more than one hour that follows. Absurd is lifeless trash and its cult status is truly absurd, I guess. Two stars for the atmosphere, the killer (he should be in another film) and the scene where they roast a head in the oven. The story is one of those that are not formed in a way that there is a crucial point, although we will also experience some revelations. The primary goal here is to see what the camera can capture to make it believable. Disgusting and believable. This succeeds, even though the characters are not otherwise written or acted in a captivating manner. "Rosso sangue," however, belongs to the good Italian gore school and certainly does not deny its trickery qualities, which is also a reason why it is worth watching the film.
