Saint Ange - Haus der Stimmen

Four years before he divided the audience into two irreconcilable camps with his martyr's opus, Pascal Laugier, under the production supervision of Christophe Gans, made quite a decent ghost story. In it, he gives vent to his predilections (a strong female protagonist, the detached atmosphere of the sets) and at the same time shows that he has mastered his craft perfectly. The sympathetic face of Virginie Ledoyen, combined with the creeping camera and ominous music, works wonders. On the other hand, I still maintain that he should have thrown away the pen and paper because the whole thing doesn't make enough sense (even though the artist plays with hints and refuses to be unnecessarily literal) and the ending falls into the category of the unnecessarily self-indulgent. Regardless, thumbs up, with the knowledge that the talent is there. (31.05.2009)

Ein fürchterlicher, grauenvoller Shit, ich schüttele langsam den Kopf über die beliebte Virginia Ledoyen, denn es ist schon das zweite Mal, dass sie bei einem so schlechten Horrorfilm ja gesagt hat. Ich bin einmal erschrocken, habe vielleicht auch einmal gelacht, vor allem aber habe ich mich die ganze Zeit gelangweilt, bis ich eingeschlafen bin. Und da habe ich Saint Ange - Haus der Stimmen mehrere Monate lang versucht zu bekommen und mich trotz der hiesigen schlechten Bewertung darauf gefreut. Doch nun verstehe ich das. Saint Ange - Haus der Stimmen weist eine leidliche Atmosphäre auf, doch eine Stunde lang passiert nichts, und wenn man sich zumindest auf ein spannendes, mitreißendes Finale vorbereitet, langweilt man sich noch mehr als bei der vorherigen Handlung. Außerdem finden sich hier zahlreiche Berührungspunkte mit Das Waisenhaus. Ich werde nicht darüber nachdenken, wer von wem abgekupfert hat, doch von Horrorfilmen aus dem Umfeld von Waisenhäusern, Sanatorien und Krankenhäusern habe ich für lange Zeit genug. (05.04.2010)
