The first animated film on which Jiří Šalamoun worked as a graphic artist was an adaptation of a story by A. P. Chekhov. A stray dog is taken in by a circus artist who teaches him various tricks. But its original owners recognize the dog during a performance, putting an end to its career. In collaboration with director Václav Bedřich, Jiří Šalamoun was preparing a parody on an American detective story, but another dog came barking. (Anifilm)

Kashtanka resembles the atmosphere of the stories of Russian writer Chekhov and the visual concept convincingly evokes the impression of Russia at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The film tells the story of a dog named Kashtanka, who temporarily loses her home and is taken in by a circus artist. Overall impression: 60%.
