Inspired by an old broadside ballad, Jiří Brdečka brings us a woeful tale of a veteran returning home who is accidentally killed by his own parents. Combining Eva Švankmajerová's paintings with cutout animation, special effects, and even a live actor, the filmmaker once again brings into play his fondness for naive folk kitsch. Englisch An animated pub song; bleak, dark and superb. The drawings were made by Eva Švankmajerová, and the great voice acting was done by Miloš Kopecký. It is as if you were watching a short animated version of one of the stories in Váchal's Horror Story, and it produces the same joy as Zeman's The Sorcerer's Apprentice. ()

Englisch An impressive animated horror, based on folk songs, with the expressive voice of narrator Miloš Kopecký. A treat with perfect artistic execution, a powerful point, and stylization. It is one of the peaks of Czech genre animation. However, the subject matter is really not for small children. Overall impression: 95%. In addition to Brdečka, the film was made by artist Eva Švankmajerová, which is noticeable from the artistic style resembling her paintings, and animator Jaroslav Doubrava, otherwise known for his collaboration with Macourek and Born.
