007__#9__First of all, I really like Christopher Lee, I liked his charismatic bad guy a lot. At the beginning I couldn't get into the story, it was too confusing in a Hamilton way again, but as time went on it got better and better. The action was good, a couple of scenes (the car chase and the jump with the propeller over the river) were excellent, the villain's mansion with the labyrinth was impressive. Thank God that the final typical Bond exaggerated mass brawl was missing, only a one-on-one duel. That's why it's a four-star overall.

Roger Moores bester Bond, kein Zweifel. Der goldene Colt des Schurken Scaramanga beendete mit seinem Schuss meiner Meinung nach die unerreichbare Ära der klassischen Bond-Filme, die vom Duo Saltzmann-Brocolli produziert und von Meistern wie Terence Young und Guy Hamilton inszeniert wurden. Letzterer verlieh Der Mann mit dem goldenen Colt jenen unverwechselbaren Stil und Charme, der die Connery-Filme so auszeichnet, und auch der hervorragende Roger Moore steht ihm in nichts nach. Er hat einen enormen persönlichen Charme und eine schelmische Ausstrahlung, die sich im richtigen Moment in die steinerne Maske eines Killers verwandelt. Und sein Gegenstück? Schade um die Worte! Der klassische Bond-Bösewicht hat viele Formen, und Lees Scaramanga ist eine der markantesten. Schließlich ist er der Anti-Bond - er hat einen mörderischen Stil, er hat Erfindungen, über die sogar Q staunt... Aber wenn Bond ein Killer mit Prinzipien ist, ist Scaramanga ein herrenloser Killer, und das führt ihn und Agent 007 in einem Kampf der Lebensprinzipien zusammen. Die beiden funkeln wie Quarze, John Barry und sein wunderbarer Soundtrack schüren das Feuer. Hamiltons Spektakel ist einfach zum Dahinschmelzen... schöne und attraktive asiatische Landschaften, göttliche Linien, herrliche weibliche Kurven... und der Klassiker Sergeant Pepper im Urlaub (I Know You! You are that secret English agent from England!!!)... Es ist einfach der Höhepunkt einer goldenen Ära, die von anderen Filmen regelmäßig an Handlungsreichtum und verblüffenden Effekten übertroffen wurde, aber nie auch nur annähernd an den STIL von Agent 007 in seiner Glanzzeit heranreichte.

The second Moore outing is better, but there is already a sense that a change of director is needed. The script is too monotonous and weak, without any significant additions. It all feels “same old-same old", and it doesn’t matter that the villain is incredibly charismatic. Bond changes locations, occasionally seduces or shoots someone – it basically depends only on the gender of the person in question – and that's it. It is more understandable and even than the previous installment, but it still feels like a farce.

Christopher Lee ist eindeutig der beste Schuft aller James-Bond-Filme! Deshalb ist es schade, dass sein Scaramanga in James Bond 007 - Der Mann mit dem goldenen Colt nicht mehr zu sehen ist… Abgesehen von ihm, der Musik von John Barry (seine besten Stücke hat er für diesen Film, für James Bond 007 - Der Hauch des Todes mit Dalton und für James Bond 007 - Goldfinger komponiert), der ausgezeichneten Autoverfolgungsjagd in Bangkok und Moore, der in einer ziemlich guten Form ist (seine Prügeleien sehen hier noch glaubwürdig aus), gibt es in diesem James-Bond-Film nichts Außergewöhnliches. Trotzdem gebe ich ihm vier Sterne, weil er nicht langweilig ist. PS: Scaramangas Diener ging mir fürchterlich auf die Nerven. Er ist ein Trottel. War es eine Absicht der Drehbuchautoren?

Roger Moore is back and definitely in better shape. It's a shame that the writing doesn't follow suit. Moore has moved on from trying to be like Sean Connery's Bond. His character is no longer a wannabe macho man but brings an interesting variety of self-deprecating sarcasm. Christopher Lee as the main villain is oozing charisma, which is the second reason why I’m giving it a 4, despite the film’s noticeable shortcomings and the second appearance of Clifton James (why?).

Roger Moore is simply a cool guy and in addition, this time he got a great villain with Christopher Lee's face. Scaramanga is one of the most iconic Bond adversaries, and it's not just because of the golden gun he owns, but also because of how he was portrayed. At times, it's maybe a bit too much fun, but I'm glad there aren't as many gadgets here and they're not so disruptive. For me, it's definitely one of the best Bond films, if I exclude the most recent ones.
