In Under Fire verband der Regisseur 1982 Action-Elemente meisterhaft mit den Stilmitteln des Politthrillers. Nick Nolte Kap der Angst stellt den zynischen Fotoreporter Russel Price dar, der das Elend der Welt ohne innere Anteilnahme ablichtet, nur daran interessiert, ob seine Fotos gut ankommen. Im nicaraguanischen Bürgerkrieg wird er jedoch gezwungen, aus seiner Beobachterrolle herauszutreten und Stellung zu beziehen. Eine sandinistische Rebellengruppe muss der Öffentlichkeit beweisen, dass ihr angeblich ermordeter Anführer in Wahrheit noch lebt. Als angesehener Fotograf könnte Price der Gruppe helfen.
