Im Atlantik geht auf myteriöse Weise ein Atom-U-Boot unter. Da sich der Unglücksstelle mit hoher Geschwindigkeit ein Unwetter nähert, wird Bud Brigmans Team einer versenkbaren Bohrinsel zur Hilfe gebeten. Als Unterstützung wird noch eine zuvor eingeflogene Spezialeinheit der Navy-Seals und Buds Exfrau Lindsey auf die “Rig” gebracht. Während die beiden Gruppen das Wrack untersuchen, kommt es zu einer “unheimlichen Begegnung” mit seltsam leuchtenden UFOs (Unterwasser fliegende Objekte). Coffee, der Anführer der Soldaten, wittert dahinter gleich die Russen und entwickelt sich zu einem paranoiden Psychopathen. Er entwendet ein Mini-U-Boot der Rig, um einen der Nuklearsprengköpfe sicherzustellen. Gerade in dem Augenblick tobt über Wasser der Sturm, das Verbindungskabel zwischen Bohrinsel und Mutterschiff reißt und sie sind von der Oberfläche abgeschnitten. (Verleiher-Text)
