Kater Garfield (Stimme: Thomas Gottschalk) liebt Lasagne und hasst Montage; genauso wie alles, was sein geregeltes - oder besser gesagt: faules - Katzenleben durcheinander bringen könnte. Doch mit der Ruhe ist es erstmal vorbei, als sein Herrchen und bester Kumpel Jon (Breckin Meyer) sich einen Hund anschafft, und das nur, um Tierärztin Liz (Jennifer Love Hewitt) zu imponieren, für die Jon schon lange schwärmt. Odie heißt der neue vierbeinige Hausbewohner. Und Garfield, dem es gar nicht passt, dass er nicht mehr im Mittelpunkt steht, tut alles, um ihn wieder loszuwerden. Doch dann wird Odie entführt. Der Kater fühlt sich schuldig, schließlich war er es, der den Hund zuvor ausgesperrt hat. Also macht sich Garfield auf die Suche nach dem verlorenen Mitbewohner. Auf seiner Odyssee durch die halbe Stadt stehen ihm dabei seine tierischen Freunde zur Seite... (Verleiher-Text)
