Interview with the Vampire

It took almost three decades for the famous saga by Anne Rice to receive a dignified television adaptation. Her "Vampire Chronicles" (and Mayfair Witches) had a total of 18 books. Talk of a sequel to the film Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles had been circulating non-stop since 1994. It is therefore very gratifying that together with her son Christopher, Anne witnessed the beginning of production of several concurrently developing series and approved the scripts, etc. Although she did not live to see their premieres, as she passed away at the end of last year, her work continues to be nurtured by Christopher, who had already established himself as her successor during her lifetime. Together with his mother, he co-wrote, for example, the second and third parts of the novel "The Mummy, or Ramses the Damned." So, what is the beginning of the television series Interview with the Vampire like? It's quite pleasant. There were indeed many changes, but none of them contradictory to the essence of the material. We live in a time of diversity. Ethnic actors have more opportunities and with them comes new inspiration. It is no longer important to start the story in 1791 on plantations, but we can move Louis's vampire birth to 1910. Now Louis is a shepherd looking for his place in the sun and trying to defend his role in the family and the underworld... New Orleans remains. Meeting other vampires in 19th century Paris replaces Claudia's solitary experience fleeing from her creator. Emotions are strong, and there is no reason to resist them. Just enjoy it. Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, and Bailey Bass are fascinating as a new vampire family. I have been waiting for this for a long time and it was worth it. I welcome the idea of retelling events from the first film adaptation. Not only that, but I hope for the entire TV series universe. (31.01.2023)

Es hat weniger als drei Jahrzehnte gedauert, bis die berühmte Saga von Anne Rice eine würdige Serienadaption erhalten hat. Ihre "Chronik der Vampire" (und die "Die Mayfair-Hexen") haben insgesamt 18 Bücher hervorgebracht. Bereits seit 1994 wird ununterbrochen über eine Fortsetzung des Films Interview mit einem Vampir spekuliert. Es ist daher eine große Genugtuung, dass Anne zusammen mit ihrem Sohn Christopher den Beginn der Produktion mehrerer parallel laufender Serien miterlebt und die Drehbücher usw. genehmigt hat. Zwar hat sie die Premiere nicht mehr erlebt, da sie Ende letzten Jahres verstorben ist, doch wird ihr Werk von Christopher, der sich bereits zu ihren Lebzeiten als ihr Nachfolger etablierte, weiter gepflegt. Zusammen mit seiner Mutter schrieb er zum Beispiel den zweiten und dritten Teil des Romans "Die Mumie oder Ramses der Verdammte". Wie also beginnt die Serie Interview with the Vampire? Sehr angenehm. Es gab zwar viele Veränderungen, aber nicht gegen den Sinn des Stoffs. Die Geburt des Vampirs Louis wurde von 1791 auf 1910 verschoben. Diesmal ist er nicht der Plantagenbesitzer, der den Verlust seiner Frau betrauert und Lestat mit seinen lauten Selbstmordversuchen anlockt. Im Gegenteil, Louis ist ein Zuhälter, der seinen Platz an der Sonne sucht und versucht, seine Rolle in der Familie und in der Unterwelt zu verteidigen... Jacob Anderson und Sam Reid sind unglaublich, wandelbar und sexy, so dass ich mir auf jeden Fall alle Folgen mindestens einmal gönnen werde. (19.12.2022)
