Ein exzentrischer Industrieboß braucht für seine neu entwickelte Laserwaffe dringend ganz besondere Diamanten, die nur im Dschungel des Congo zu finden sind. Deshalb schickt er eine Expedition dorthin los. Nachdem diese auf mysteriöse Weise verschollen ist, wird eine zweite unter der Leitung von Karen Ross angesetzt. Da aber in dem besagten Land gerade eine Art Bürgerkrieg ausgebrochen ist, muß das neue Team als Tarnung mit dem Wissenschaftler Peter Elliot reisen. A stupid movie that is probably a parody of its source material. It's not adventurous or entertaining enough, let alone thrilling. A slow-moving bore with solid production design, good music and decent visual effects.

As a B-movie, it is good, but as an adaptation of Crichton's book Congo failed. That said, you can't deny the skillfully shot scenes, the beautiful Goldsmith score (shame about that) and the mechanical monkeys that look alive.
