Der Marathon Mann (1976)

Englisch One of the most successful films of the 1970s and I wonder why. It is a pretty average thriller, which will fully satisfy perhaps only fans of jogging and overcomplicated stories. However, for those who are afraid of going to the dentist, this is a must :)

Alien - Die Wiedergeburt (1997)

Englisch No, no. Jeunet should not have made this, his poetics don't fit the Alien franchise. While the previous parts aroused the right kind of horror and despair, this one is often rather amusing. And the alien baby at the end is a mockery of the entire franchise.

The Big Hit (1998)

Englisch A very funny action comedy in places. There could have been more action moments (like the thrilling opening scene), but you never get bored. Some of the gags are really good and some are downright deadly (for instance, the successful punchline with the diligent video store customer) Of the actors, Lou Diamond Phillips is brilliant, Wahlberg is surprisingly bland.

Planet der Affen (2001)

Englisch Properly as wacky as you’d expect from Burton, with flawless sets and make-up effects, and a surprisingly bland Wahlberg. Overall, I would have liked it, but the incredibly idiotic final half hour, including a very weird ending, put a damper on everything. According to the reviews, not many people understood it, and I appreciate the ending in the older classic version all the more.

John F. Kennedy - Tatort Dallas (1991)

Englisch Stone is such a skilled filmmaker that he might even be able to give you the idea that Kennedy was a KGB agent and was shot by Martians. If it was filmed as brilliantly as JFK, you'd eat it up hook, line and sinker. I'm exaggerating, of course, but JFK is definitely formally perfect and very controversial in content. We will have to wait a few more years to know what really happened to Kennedy, when the CIA declassifies its documents and we can see the events surrounding the assassination in a broader context. Until then, we can only speculate and trust, say, Stone :).

U-Turn - Kein Weg zurück (1997)

Englisch Weird film, that's the first thing that comes to mind when I think of U-Turn. Emotionally it’s a very cold film that just fizzles through your head. I’m not saying I was bored, but it is weak for Stone standards. Among those worth mentioning are the chubby, charmingly dirty Bob Thorthon (unrecognizable!) and the then-unknown Jeniffer with her sexy proportions.

Wag the Dog - Wenn der Schwanz mit dem Hund wedelt (1997)

Englisch A nice side piece by Levinson, put together in two weeks, and it's not even noticeable. It's great to watch and the theme of the film becomes more relevant in this time of the Iraq war. Albania or Iraq, it often works out the same.

Heat (1995)

Englisch A thrilling film where I didn’t mind the excessive runtime. De Niro and Al Pacino are reunited in a movie after a long time and it's worth it. A brilliant mix of action and a kind of subtly psychological portrait of two standing on the opposite side of the law, but who have respect for each other and something in common. Some passages are based on real events, e.g. the pivotal scene of DeNiro and Pacino's conversation in the restaurant actually happened. Heat is one of the best films of the 1990s.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994)

Englisch I don't believe anyone will make a better version of Frankenstein in the future than Brannagh. Inventive direction, striking visual stylisation and an irresistibly nasty De Niro. I don't want to insult the black and white classic, but while Boris Karloff rather makes me laugh, De Niro's monster evokes real terror mixed with pity.

Der Tod steht ihr gut (1992)

Englisch Mediocre by Zemeckis’s standards, but the story itself hides a lot of truths. The desire for eternal youth...I can't count how many such eternal young women I see on the street.
