Hannibal (2001)

Englisch Scott did his best, he just couldn't make more out of such a bad script. Jodie Foster knew very well why she wasn't up for it again. The only thing worth mentioning is that you will reliably NOT recognize Gary Oldman as the disfigured Mason Verger. His wife wanted to divorce him after he saw it!

Auf der Flucht (1993)

Englisch Hands down, the best thriller of the 1990s. Andrew Davis, an otherwise mediocre director, must have been kissed by the muses for days while filming. Very well deserved six Oscar nominations.

Frankie & Johnny (1991)

Englisch A wonderful love story that caresses the soul, makes you laugh and moves you, and an acting masterclass by Pacino and Pfeiffer.

Event Horizon - Am Rande des Universums (1997)

Englisch It's a very bizarre disgusting thing, which is brilliantly filmed and probably won't make you feel very well. There aren't many films like this. I applaud Paul Anderson for always pushing the envelope hard, regardless of audience reaction, and not giving a damn about disgusting the average viewer. I wonder what the original unedited version, which is 40 minutes longer, looked like. It must have been cool.

Auf Messers Schneide - Rivalen am Abgrund (1997)

Englisch It is a pity that our film distributors did not think of putting this film in our cinemas. The beautiful landscape of Alaska would look great on the big screen. The scene when Hopkins and Baldwin fight the grizzly bear is really great and very realistic.

Dungeons & Dragons (2000) booo!

Englisch Things must be going downhill with Jeremy Irons for him to accept a role in such crap. And on top of that, he overacts so awfully it almost made me feel sick. A sad ending for a great star. And that dumb, overacting black guy, was even worse.

Asterix & Obelix gegen Cäsar (1999)

Englisch I love the intelligent humour of the Asterix comics, though it loses a lot with the movie adaptation, it’s still watchable. Interestingly, the animated Asterix movies didn't turn out very well, either. That smart humour from the comic books can’t be translated.

Final Destination (2000)

Englisch The opening scene with the plane crash is brilliant and some of the deaths are delightfully sophisticated, but the film doesn’t have much else to offer. As time went on, my initial enthusiasm wore off and the ending with the deadly electric cable is quite dodgy.

Good Will Hunting (1997)

Englisch Hats off to Affleck and Damon and their smart and emotionally powerful script, the Oscar is very well deserved. During the scene where Robin Williams speaks to Damon on the park bench, I am always amazed at the power of Williams's monologue.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)

Englisch The excessively stylized sets have panache and give the film an impressive atmosphere. Gary Oldman can't disappoint, his ambivalent Dracula inspires both horror and pity, and he can lick knives in a sexy way. I think the film benefited from taking the legend in a different direction, i.e. making Dracula a creature who is both bloodthirsty and lovelorn. Unfortunately, Coppola’s adaptation has little in common with the book.
