Die Insel der besonderen Kinder (2016)

Englisch Tim Burton decided to handle another horror fairy tale, the story of which really fits with his style. And you can really see how much he was enjoying himself making this movie. For instance, the final scene in the theme park is probably the craziest scene that Tim Burton ever created in image and sound. On the other hand, I had a bit of a problem with the way they explained the world. To be honest, I was getting lost in all those pasts and presents and even several days after I watched the film, I couldn’t really process how exactly Eva Green manipulated time. On the other hand, I got exactly what I wanted. Tim Burton had a blast once again with the story and all of that and I had the opportunity to enjoy all that with the works. The beginning of the movie in America is exactly like from the world of Edward Scissorhands; actually, that film will be alluded to several times. Old England is exactly the way you would imagine it would be in a movie by Tim. Difficult, mysterious, terrifying. All in one. What else can I say? In this respect, I was really satisfied. What I don’t understand however are the opinions of people who seem to be specialist assistants to that clown of a spokesperson of the Czech president who feel that Tim’s recent movies have been stale. I definitely disagree with that. The contrary. When he’s making movies in his name and not in the name of large studios, it’s still a pleasure to watch his flicks.

Hundstage (1975)

Englisch One Wednesday morning, Al Pacino woke up as a bank clerk whose world had crumbled apart. He said to himself “screw it” and he decided to rob his place of work and to exchange the money for cigars, rum and a hut made of straw to sleep in in Cuba. He got himself two accomplices: one flees before the action starts and you feel sad about the other one – even more than you feel sad about the movie. After a botched robbery, the two criminals remain closed in the bank along with several employees, the bank is surrounded by about five dozen cops and the social survey of year 1975 starts. And since the movie stars Al Pacino in the leading role, you can bet that you won’t be bored.

Insidious: Chapter 3 – Jede Geschichte hat einen Anfang (2015)

Englisch I must admit that I had expected a loose but very similar sequel to the first two parts of Insidious. But it never occurred to me that I might be getting a film that knowingly pokes fun of all those monsters, demons and nightmares. It’s as if the movie took the Insidious name only to make fun of it and it got away with it without any problems. On the other hand, I was saying to myself whether I should cry about those illogical plot holes or whether I should simply enjoy scene after scene. You see once two guys with the punk image of ghostbusters burst into the teen horror halfway through, the movie gains a whole new unique dimension. On top of that, the technical side of the film isn’t actually too bad. All in all, this is a film that you can’t take seriously and that’s how you have to approach it.

Lucky Louie (2006) (Serie)

Englisch I guess I’m more into the usual robust sitcoms that put main emphasis on youth. Friends, HIMYM and so on. You see, Lucky Louie starts with the protagonist having one child, it involves the initial stages of a marital crisis, guys sitting on the bench with a bottle of beer and black guys who are supposed to fill the gap made by racism. I don’t think I have grown to such a stage. So far. This show definitely has a ton of ideas and I don’t mind the kind of humor at all, which is a bit more guy-oriented than otherwise. But as far as sitcoms go, this is average in my opinion.

Bridget Jones' Baby (2016)

Englisch Fifteen years ago, I couldn’t stand Bridget Jones, but I feel that this part took the main character’s stupidity down by about fifty percent and the authors decided to direct the humor rather towards the individual scenes. And you know what? It’s been a long time since I had this good of a laugh and it’s also been a very long time since I saw a comedy that would be really funny and at the same time not vulgar at all. And if I have, it was borderline adequate. So completely OK. There was so much humor in this film that I will only probably absorb it once I watch the movie again on TV. So, I must admit that I didn’t feel like seeing this movie in the cinema, but in the end I really enjoyed it. Excellent British humor the likes of which I haven’t seen in a movie or TV show in a long time.

The Finest Hours (2016)

Englisch After Deepwater Horizon, it’s really tough to give this Disney crap a better review than two water test valves. The reason why I’m comparing these is that what Deepwater Horizon has in common with this flick is the story, water and the link to the disaster is more than obvious as well. But what’s more important is that the real disaster was taken care of here by digital effects and the characters are laughable and they would almost make you cry rather than provide a serious emotional basis for a good quality emotional experience. The Finest Hour is simply a bad film and on top of that it might be the first serious Disney movie. In this case, it’s a very bad Disney movie, which I think should be aired on Disney Channel on Sunday after lunch. But it definitely doesn’t deserve to be shown in cinemas.

Bad Neighbors 2 (2016)

Englisch A classic sequel with everything that entails. Sometimes it will make you feel like throwing up and every now and then it draws its best jokes from the first part. I did watch it until the end, but I would love to run hooks through the mouths of that alpha-girl group and hang them somewhere out to dry.

Passion Fish (1992)

Englisch While watching this movie, I felt as if I was watching life as it was. And that’s despite the fact I have never been to the American rural areas. In fact, I’ve never been to America as such. Nevertheless, a strong asset of this film is the humanity, honesty and genuineness of all the characters that play an important role in the movie. Also, while watching this film, I felt as if I was watching the French movie Untouchables. You can definitely see where the authors of the French movie got their inspiration from.

Von 5 bis 7 - Eine etwas andere Liebesgeschichte (2014)

Englisch This is a melancholic romantic movie and it’s not only because we know today what happened to Anton Yelchin. However, having watched this movie, I’m literally sad that such a great actor had to depart so untimely. You see 5 to 7 has such a nice story and on top of that very strong dialogues. And since Bérenice Marlohe could mesmerize a man just by looking at him, everybody who likes good but sad stories from real life will find a little somethingto enjoy in this humble story. I also appreciate the ending, which is actually quite rough for a romantic movie. 5 to 7 might be an inconspicuous movie, but it will surprise you even more and it is definitely worth 90 minutes of everybody’s life.

Dare to Be Wild (2015)

Englisch The Irish nature lover Mary Reynolds, who is portrayed by the actress Emma Greenwell, who slightly resembles Reese Witherspoon, might be quiet and humble, but on the other hand her story is pretty nice to watch. You see, this story contains that incredibly positive mood, beautiful Irish countryside and the message of a person who is trying to do something for our planet, and that is something I’m ready to appreciate any time.
