Durante la tormenta (2018)

Englisch Finally, a pleasant surprise. An excellent thriller-like drama full of storms, clashes of two time planes, and the pursuit of justice. I couldn't tear my eyes off the screen for two hours straight. Excellent acting performances, a well-crafted screenplay, and fantastic directing made me enjoy this film to the fullest. I couldn't possibly give a lower rating.

Die Taschendiebin (2016)

Englisch Although there was no trace of action in the film, the story certainly didn't stagnate or get boring. The running time that seemed scary at first wasn't a problem in the end. The plot may have been slightly overelaborate in places, sometimes I even got lost in the story (due to the alternation of time planes), but I wasn't bored for a second, and the uncle's weird cravings were quite amusing.

Balkanskij rubež (2019)

Englisch The Russians did not disappoint and added a generous dose of propaganda and heartfelt moments. But I didn't mind it this time, because the film says practically the same thing as I always say. The "humanitarian" bombing of Yugoslavia was a crime, and the person who coined this expression is a giant asshole. Anyway, back to the movie. It was an awesome action film, which for me was like The Magnificent Seven meets Black Hawk Down meets The Dawns Here Are Quiet. I had a great time, and the 150 minutes just flew by.

Murder Mystery (2019) booo!

Englisch I don't expect much of Adam Sandler films, but this one was a downright disaster. Jennifer Aniston, Gemma Arterton, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson – the cast got me excited about the film, and then I spent an hour and a half being bored to death while it was trying to pretend it was hilarious. It wasn't. Comedies that don’t make me laugh are a guarantee of a “Boo!” rating, because I see no reason for their existence.

He's Out There (2018)

Englisch I can't give a higher than a slightly above-average rating, because I caught myself being bored about halfway through the film. Fortunately, everything was saved by a more lively (but, at the same time, more dead) final third. The main villain strongly reminded me of Jason from Friday the 13th, and the book reminded me of the Babadook, so the screenwriter could have been a little more inventive. However, the sister duo were quite convincing as the terrified sister duo, and I could heartily root for the main character. Yvonne Strahovski is sure nice to look at (she would be the only reason for me to watch the third season of The Handmaid’s Tale, if it wasn’t for the terrifying prospect of Elisabeth Moss on the other end of the scale). 3*+

Stuber - 5 Sterne Undercover (2019)

Englisch This comedy certainly wasn’t overwhelming for my brain, the plot was quite simple and predictable. But I must admit that the humor in the film worked, especially desperate Stu's hilarious one-liners. I had a surprisingly good time.

Parasite (2019)

Englisch A great film about the Kims’ infiltration into the lives of the Park family. I had no idea that a Korean film could be so entertaining. Throughout those 132 minutes, to my amazement, not a single Korean started overacting. The story was so excellently written that I wasn’t bored for a second. I was even sorry when it was over, which doesn’t happen to me very often. A perfect treat!

King of Devil's Island (2010)

Englisch The Norwegian version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was really enjoyable except for a few weaker moments. Stellan Skarsgard was great as usual, and the creators provided a perfectly grim atmosphere. I just couldn’t empathize with any of the main characters. Sure, the caregivers shouldn't get intimate with their wards because it's unhygienic, but I do think that in our prisons, the guards should sometimes stand on an inmate's fingers instead of just changing games in their PS 4.

9. April - Angriff auf Dänemark (2015)

Englisch I had to laugh at some of the reviews here (bikes against tanks, etc.). Almost every European army (including the Germans) had cyclist companies or battalions. The infantry divisions at the beginning of the war had to go on foot, so the bikes were a huge advantage for fast movement. Anyway, back to the movie. I enjoyed it. I appreciate the fact that the Danish creators didn’t try to aggrandize the soldiers (the Americans and Russians should learn from them), so the whole film seemed extremely authentic to me. I was also happy to see great shots of the Pzkpfw II and SdKfz 222/223, and the oppressive atmosphere full of helplessness was excellent. Unlike many war blockbusters, it was really well done.

Na střeše (2019)

Englisch After reading the summary, I expected the film to be nothing special, but I was pleasantly surprised. Alois Švehlík was superb, and Jiří Mádl’s work with this simple theme was very skillful. He both wrote it as well as directed it, and he deserves praise for both. I never liked Jiří Mádl as an actor, but if he keeps on writing and directing so well, I’ll be happy to keep watching his films. I really enjoyed the inconspicuous yet excellent humor, which perfectly offset the dramatic scenes.
