Misirlou is an American experimental movie that did not sit well with me. Obviously, Trevor Simms had a vision, although it appears to have gone over my head, and it does not matter how many familiar names from the world of B-movies show up. Neither Tom Sizemore nor Larry Bishop guarantees a quality B-movie. What more can I say? A load of censored fake boobs mostly censored is not really something that excites me in any way.

The British movie A Field in England is an experimental movie that is primarily aimed at festival fans, so it is perhaps not surprising that the movie was screened at the 48th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. It has to be said that it is certainly not downright bad. It is quite impressive, although I am not sure you could use the word enjoyable. You could probably think about this movie for a while without drawing any real conclusions.

The Mexican movie Mark of the Devil shows that Netflix gives opportunities to anyone with a project that is even remotely interesting. However, it can still end up being something completely we have seen before that is hardly impressive. This movie was filmed in a country with a lot to say in terms of faith. There was some wasted potential, and the movie could have easily had a shorter running time.

The second season of The Order is not really very groundbreaking. Katharine Isabelle stands out head and shoulders above the rest of the cast, who seem to be going through the motions. I like Isabelle even though that is simply because I was already a fan, and admittedly she is getting on in years. Acting-wise, though, she is something else and thankfully not as annoyingly cute as other actors who get more screen time.

The Indonesian movie The Doll 2 is extremely long-winded and full of tropes. However, I still could not help thinking that some scenes were very well filmed and that this is great for a horror movie. They simultaneously evoke extremely pleasant and unpleasant feelings. Even though Rocky Soraya is repeating himself treading the same ground, it is at least pretty scary at times.

The co-production Gretel and Hansel is most certainly an impressive movie and has a very good, heavy atmosphere. It seems to be trying to be an innovative take on a classic fairy tale, although if they had decided to make a more original movie, it could have been better. However, they decided to take something familiar and twist it into something else, which I thought did not really work.

The Australian movie Boar definitely has the potential to become a cult movie. The movie’s special effects and practical effects are great, and there are other scenes with some almost abstract images that you might not expect in what is effectively a B-movie. Boar is a very good horror movie and cinematic experience in general.

The American movie Most Beautiful Island is a good example of low-budget independent movie production. It manages to create a decent storyline with non-actors and show that somewhere off-screen, things are happening that we probably do not need to see. Most Beautiful Island is not an explicit movie trying to be in your face, although it does reveal the unpleasant face of a society we would not wish to be a part of.

The Canadian movie Crowsnest is just another product of the pseudo-genre of found footage. There is just another group of people who accidentally filmed some unfortunate events, and then someone found it and learned about their tragic fate. Crowsnest is so stale I do not think I am capable of seeing anything good about it, as the movie is a waste of time, in my opinion.

You cannot really tell this movie is Belgian-French and not American. Hostile is very much aimed at an English-speaking audience, which is part of the main joke that brings the characters together. Again, this does not really matter much. However, the bad thing is that the movie is quite predictable, and the end holds no surprises and is not impressive at all.
