The American movie Psychopaths rides the wave of similar productions, which combine unbridled violence, home invasion, torture porn, and general exploitation that are popular and are sort of making their way into the mainstream. It is just that Psychopaths failed to combine all the elements in a way that was truly memorable. The special effects, make-up, costumes, the violence, the screaming lunatics, there's just nothing all that great about it. Not in this execution.

The start of the first season of the Indian television series Betaal is pretty good. Sure, it is not even close to the South Korean Kingdom, which is impossible because that show is simply better at everything. Despite India having different standards for horror movies, they still managed to make a four-part television series that works in a totally awesome way as a horror. I would be more than happy to see more stuff like this from the Indians.

Static is a good albeit average American horror movie that uses family relationship drama to pull viewers in. In addition, there is a mystery surrounding what is actually going on with the individual characters. The plot development is not exactly straightforward, and in the end, you realize that you enjoyed it even though it is not very well-thought-out.

The Spanish horror movie Exorcismus is pretty traditional for the most part. However, it still has a few good scenes, which make it above-average, and it is not simply a rip-off of other movies we have seen a million times before. So it is good, and that touch of originality is going to please horror movie aficionados.

The British-Australian movie Little Monsters is a good example of a horror movie that appeals to a mainstream audience. Little Monsters is more of a comedy, even though there are still some pretty intense scenes. The characters are easy to like, especially Miss Caroline, and of course, the storyline avoids children having to die, so what more could you want?

The American movie The Prey is not a great slasher flick, it is not a great movie. It is a product of its time, a product of a time when killer movies were cool and popular. And it works. It is just popcorn entertainment. There is a lot of sex, some nudity, and that is all you get. That is all you can ask for because you are just supposed to be having fun. And if you just switch yourself off you are probably going to be entertained by The Prey.

The American movie 3:an Eye for an Eye also known simply as 3 is a pretty good example of low-budget movie production. It does, however, have a rather good screenplay they built on well. Sure, there are some weak moments, like it is quite long-winded, and the actors are often clumsy. However, this is still a movie that works in quite a surprising way.

The American-Canadian movie Bloodwork is a variation on the classic theme of scientific experiments gone wrong. On the plus side, it is actually quite atmospheric and occasionally repulsive. Some scenes could at least make you get fidgety if nothing else, which is not bad for an otherwise not amazingly interesting horror movie.

On the one hand, it is good that the Italian horror movie Cruel Peter decided to take a slightly different route which was not your classic ghost story. However, on the other hand, it is a great shame that this slightly knowing, albeit bland story did not manage to contain more horror. It is as if the horror was pushed to the background and forgotten, and therefore I failed to find it moving in any way.

The American movie Mermaid Down combines different genres that may be impressive because everything is connected in a relatively authentic way. However, on the other hand, it is definitely the kind of mishmash that is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. The ratings reflect this on FilmBooster although I think this movie still deserves attention. Mermaid Down may well be a strange movie, but it is in no way worth a Boo!
