Drive (2011)

Englisch Two people amazed me incredibly. First, director Nicolas Winding Refn, who showed me that his film "Barbar" has potential, which, however, was not fully utilized. But with the film "Drive," he convinced me that he simply has it in him. Secondly, it is actor Ryan Gosling, whom I had overlooked, but who showed me that he deserves attention. A great protagonist, with or without a conscience, he is silent, brooding, but still manages to be human when necessary. He carries love within himself, which slowly emerges and must be fought for. A beautiful romantic story in a tough world and tough life of a man who earns a living as a film stuntman, makes extra money as a getaway driver for robbers, and doesn't mind smashing a hoodlum's head to pulp in the presence of his girlfriend. A tough film with a strong story, mainly thanks to great acting performances. I can't help but think that Hollywood needs more European directors. Hangover 2 (2011)

Englisch Second time, but actually the first time. "Hangover in Bangkok" is a continuation of "Hangover in Vegas", but it could easily be considered a copy. Once that principle worked, so we will do it the same way again, because it will work again. The American spirit of commerce has once again shown its dull face. I can't say that I didn't smile at some scenes, but making this film is simply pathetic. The same characters, different animal, Mike Tyson back on the scene, vulgar humor, which doesn't bother me, but mainly the ending, when everything turns out well in the end, even though it seems that everything is totally... you know where. No, I'm not giving it a second chance. I don't like remakes, let alone copies. Trying to get the maximum out of the viewer without added value is the bestiality of today's film world. And do you know what? A third part is coming... Copy of a copy is approaching. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/04/diar-milovnika-filmu-c-0003-eastwood.html

Die Muppets (2011)

Englisch "Muppets" are not something that is very well-known and popular here. Instead, we are more familiar with "Sesame Street," which is a Canadian show. The Muppets are not much different. In America, it is a television treasure, but it doesn't really affect us much. Well, it affected me. I enjoyed the film also because Jason Segel was in it, who is simply great and will only get better. But above all, the relaxed connection between our world and the world of the Muppets works, and it is all complemented by great music and catchy songs. If Americans are good at something, it's musicals. We still have huge gaps in that area. Sometimes silly, sometimes entertaining, for children, but also a lot for adults. A nice story that won't offend, but probably won't excite us that much either. This is where my love for American culture is apparent. The Help (2011)

Englisch When I watched the movie "Black and White World," I wondered how Americans perceive it. I am sure they see it as a drama that depicts a story, but do they realize that this is about their parents, or maybe even themselves? Are they capable of acknowledging that in their relentless freedom they were actually quite nasty and despicable? A nation that is so proud of itself understood equality 40 years ago, yet in some states, they still reject it. But to reassure us that they are progressive, they elect a black - pardon, African American - president, who is still, however, a mixed race. Sometimes I think how great it would be to live in America, but sometimes this idea deeply repulses me. Everything has its merits, but the story of the black women, who are no worse than any of us - and perhaps even better - is truly a powerful testimony that manages not to get lost in the swamp of pathos. The outstanding performances of the actors were rightfully awarded an Oscar or at least a nomination. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/04/diar-milovnika-filmu-c-0003-eastwood.html

Mr. Poppers Pinguine (2011)

Englisch An undemanding comedy that deserves attention, especially for a family afternoon. Children will be excited about the incredibly cute and properly crazy penguins, while parents will be thrilled by the fact that their children will give them a moment of peace. They can relax and maybe even enjoy Jim Carrey, who is still an excellent comedian to me and his facial expressions, movements, just everything he is capable of, truly amaze me. His range of physical comedy is incredibly vast and I admire him for that. The film "Mr. Popper's Penguins" won't leave much of an impression on you, of course, it ends with the necessary happy ending. It's not great art, but at least you'll find out that Angela Lansbury, aka Jessica Fletcher, is still alive and very agile at the age of 87. Letters from Iwo Jima (2006)

Englisch My next encounter with war Eastwood, where the director once again shows that he is much closer to a human story than capturing war. He is not trying to make a great war film, but a great drama. I simply cannot forget some scenes from the movie. The scene with the dog, touching and harsh at the same time, Japanese fanaticism, which ends in mass suicide with a lot of grenades, a bucket of excrement, which means the difference between life and death. Even in war, there is room for happiness. An excellent film that surpassed its doppelgänger "Flags of Our Fathers". I admire Eastwood for not shooting in English, but in the right language, just like Mel Gibson did in "Apocalypto" or "The Passion of the Christ". That's how it should be. And not like the case of the film "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", which is great in the American version, but why the hell is it set in Sweden when the characters speak English anyway? The Descendants - Familie und andere Angelegenheiten (2011)

Englisch George Clooney was hoping for an Oscar nomination with this film, which he eventually won, but for me, Brad Pitt in "Moneyball" was better last year. George was still good, especially in terms of being relatable. In the last film I saw with him, "The Descendants," he was a bit distant, but here he showed us all the emotions he is capable of. However, he is not the only one leading the film, it's also his children. Actually, his whole family. Alexander Payne and his team absolutely deserved the Oscar because the story they created is truly unique. Strong, complicated, and well-developed. The character development is excellent, some characters are truly one-of-a-kind, none are the same, they are all unique. Someone like Sid is truly a prime idiot. It's worth watching because of the acting performances, and for me, the strong script as well. It's true that I might have expected a little more. I just don't know how to name it. Maybe even more emotions. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/04/diar-milovnika-filmu-c-0002-zajimave.html

Die Abenteuer von Tim und Struppi - Das Geheimnis der 'Einhorn' (2011)

Englisch Steven Spielberg is not my favorite director and I don't think he will ever become one. His attempts to win Oscars, which "War Horse" is for me, are sometimes too obvious, and the time when he made unforgettable movies like "Duel" or "Jaws" is long gone. When Tintin was supposed to come to the big screen, I was excited. But when I found out it was going to be in 3D animation, I refused to go to the cinema. Tintin wasn't worth it to me. When the film finally reached me... I wasn't disappointed, nor was I excited. I appreciated that the Spielberg-Jackson duo filmed my favorite story "The Secret of the Unicorn," but I didn't feel any added value from it. Hergé created a masterpiece, which I confirmed when I read the story. It is interesting, slightly naive, adventurous, and clever. Spielberg wanted to be bombastic. He didn't miss out on an Oscar nomination in that regard. But that's about it. The scene on the ship where Captain Haddock starts a fire amused me. Funny. But the original work still comes out on top for me. If it had been live-action, I probably would have been more ecstatic. Like this...just a nice film. It has quality, there's probably no other way, but it didn't take my breath away. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/04/diar-milovnika-filmu-c-0002-zajimave.html

Chuck und Larry - Wie Feuer und Flamme (2007)

Englisch After the terrible "Jack and Jill," I wanted to cheer myself up, so I watched this movie. I have to say that I was thrilled. This is the Sandler I like. His jokes are offensive, disgusting, he behaves like a jerk, but you still eat it up. Kevin James shows that he is a great partner, but he can handle the whole film by himself. However, Sandler and him fit perfectly and you can see how good friends they are. And when they're not, they can play it great. A pair of firefighters, one's bad social situation, a registered partnership, and a wedding as the only way out. The plot is far-fetched, but there are excellent cameo roles played by classics such as Rob Schneider, Nick Swardson, or David Spade, as well as newer faces in Sandler's movies - Dan Aykroyd, Steve Buscemi, or Ving Rhames. This Sandler rocks, and even though there is no shortage of toilet humor or final moral lessons that are really far-fetched, this is a comedy that I would gladly watch again. In some time. Ein Mann für alle Unfälle (2008)

Englisch Owen Wilson is not a bad actor, actually I quite like him and I'm glad his suicide attempt failed, because Woody Allen could have chosen him for collaboration. However, "You, Me and Dupree" is not a comedy that I found revolutionary. You might laugh sporadically - well, it is a comedy - but it doesn't leave anything deeper in you. I see a slight parallel with the movie "Superbad". The guys need help. In "Superbad" it is about sex, in "You, Me and Dupree" it is about bullying. Not that they want to bully, but they are being bullied. It's always some nerds who get involved in it. Dupree is the one who is supposed to help them. And so, the trio of losers becomes stars. It doesn't work perfectly, but actually that's the point of the story. The comedy didn't bring anything so interesting, even though someone may appreciate Owen Wilson's naked butt. The comedy is not that funny and actually quite tame. In that aspect, someone like Sandler suits me more. More: http://www.filmovy-denik.cz/2012/04/diar-milovnika-filmu-c-0002-zajimave.html
