Biografie

Philippe Claudel is a writer, playwright, and filmmaker, his most important novels have been translated into over 40 languages. He has written and directed four feature films: I’ve Loved You So Long (2008), starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Elsa Zylberstein, produced by Yves Marmion for UGC. The film received the Audience Award and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlinale; received two Golden Globe nominations; was selected at Telluride; and won the BAFTA for Best Foreign Language Film, the EFA for Best Actress (for Kristin Scott Thomas), the César for Best First Feature Film, and the César for Best Supporting Actress (for Elsa Zylberstein). Later, in 2011, he directed Tous les soleils, starring Stefano Accorsi, Neri Marcorè, Clotilde Courau, and Anouk Aimée, produced by Yves Marmion for UGC. He also directed Before the Winter Chill (2013), starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Daniel Auteuil, Leila Bekthi, and Richard Berry, produced by Yves Marmion and Romain Rojtman for UGC; the film was selected at Telluride. His following film was A Childhood (2015), starring Alexi Mathieu, Jules Gauzelin, Pierre Deladonchamps, and Angelica Sarre, produced by Margaret Menegoz for Les Films du Losange. It won Best Screenplay at the Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur, as well as Best Film and Best Actor at the Chicago International Film Festival. He is also the director of the 2019 documentary Louis-Marcel Opi, curé vosgien, filmed on 26 mm.
